1) The "today's paper" page of the New York Times in 2018 includes articles that mostly have to do with Trump and his economic and foreign policies related to tariffs and involvement in the Middle East as well as articles on the President of China at the time and stories of local politics in Houston. On the other hand, todays paper includes stories about stories about "Speaker Drama", Kevin McCarthy, the debt limit and again more local stories such as how a lecturer  lost her job after showing a picture of the Prophet Muhammad

2) in terms of aesthetic, nothing has really changed, the layout is bassically the same, the font used is also the same, it looks like both pages are days apart rather than 5 year apart

3) in terms of social media participation, again nothing has changed, the web page did not have any space for social media participation in 2018, and the same can be said for the page in 2023, there are no links to their social media and there is no where for viewers to interact with any social media accounts they might have

4) regarding what the site has lost or maintained, it has not lost much as the two are practically identical, and has maintained everything the same, the layout, fonts and even article placement, this is probably because they are mimicking the layout of a typical paper newspaper and this is a format that works particularly well that people like and therefore changing it would be counterproductive.

5) By looking at these two pages, what we can learn about this site is that it has stayed the same, it found something that works for them, that is efficient and that resonates with people and consequently it has not changed. What this tells us about the evolution about the Web is that it can be driven by the people and what they like or dislike about the internet and what the people are receptive to, which big companies take into consideration when making their web pages

I changed the color of the background and the text on the right side. In order to change the poem i added the word "river" to line 50 and the word  "sleep" to line 55 which created a whole new poem due to the randomization of the code (i think im not too familiar with how this works). b) other metadata in the photo include the time, date, location, and that this photo is "39 out of 19, 292" photos

c) if someone were to objectively "label" my image with keywords I think they would write would be: "blue bags", "swimming", "samak", "travel", "trip".

d) the images that are immediately next to this picture are similar and are all of the same day. They include pictures of my former teamates, the pool and more pictures of these bags.

e) this is the only copy, and to my knowledge it does not exist anywhere else other than my icloud.

f) I think that in 10 years I will still be able to find this picture because unless I delete it from my icloud, it will probably still be in my icloud. I don't think it will be that much different. The page is organized in roughly 5 sections that cover todays news, a featured article, a fun fact section, what happened on this date in oast history and a featured picture. The content on the home page is therefore very varied

2. a) I actually didn't know that wikipedia had a search bar, because I never go on their home page, but rather type the information im looking for followed by wikipedia so it brings me to the page I want to directly. I clicked on "view history" that showed me the edits that were done on the page and what I found most interesting is that it tells me how many bytes the edit to the page take up

2. b) after clicking on "talk" and scrolling to the bottom of the page it says that editing to this page by new or unregistered users is prohibited due to vandalism. This relates to the third and fourth pillars of Wikipedia. The third pillar states that anyone can edit Wikipedia, in this case it is not exactly true as not "anyone" can edit, they first have to become a registered user with some experience before editing the home page. It also relates to the fourth pillar which states that Wikipedia editors should treat each other with respect and civility. This is so as the cases of vandalism by some editors on the work of others is disrespectful and violates the fourth pillar.

3. a) I chose French as my alternative language. The main page is extremely similar to the English version, it is organized similarly in sections that are mostly the same in both cases (today's news, fun fact, etc.) with the addition of one section that is in the French Wikipedia but not in the English one that talks about what Wikipedia is and how one can contribute to it. I think that the reason the french Wikipedia puts such an emphasis on attracting people to contribute information is because as the guest lecturer mentioned so much more is being written in English, there is so much knowledge produced in English but this is not the case for French Wikipedia where there is less information production in French, they want to change this by incentivizing people to contribute.]]> 2023-02-04 22:01:56 UTC https://padlet.com/stripedsensitivellc/2mk9whpq6nqhstj8/wish/2468666009 week 5: digital privacy alexiacernat https://padlet.com/stripedsensitivellc/2mk9whpq6nqhstj8/wish/2472007186 1) The platform I chose is Instagram. Some of the privacy and recommendation options that are available that I did not know about before include: Siri & search, tracking and contacts.

2) The options that I am currently opting into are: my location (while using), my photos (all photos), microphone, camera and notifications. These options were not automatic, I went in a while ago and set things like my contacts off, so all the options that I am currently opting into for Instagram, I am ok with and comfortable with and would not want to change them. I think that if I were to change anything right now, it would actually make my experience on the platform worse and more inconvenient. This is so as things like allowing access to my photos, camera and microphone are all necessary functions for me to use Instagram in a convenient way, if I were to turn any of these off, watching stories or posting pictures would be difficult and inconvenient.

3) I do think there is some bias, because these are pieces of news that mostly resonate with my personal concerns about the world and what I am preoccupied with. b) My friend says that based on the tagline it seems clear that what I am aiming to do is create a social media campaign to end overconsumption, however she says that it is not made very clear how I am going to do that and that the slogan "the death of micro-trends" was a little confusing for her

c) She suggested that when you hover each section/button that they kind of "light up" so that it is clearer what section you are heading to.

Reflection #1: The quality of the output was actually really good and I did get what I want in a sense because it gave me a list of 10 things that I should do in New York like visiting the MET and the Brooklyn Bridge, however I have already done some of these things and the suggestions were pretty "basic" and touristy things to do. I do think however, that for someone who has never been to New York before that this would be a really good starting point for them to visit all the big and main places.

2) Refine: Best non-touristical places to visit in New York
Reflection #2: I did learn something new with this second output, as the results I got were of more "local" places to visit that were not tourist hot spots. I thought of the factors to refine my search like using "best" intsead of "top 10" because just because something is a top place to visit does not mean that it is necessarily good and I also specified that I wanted non-touristical places because I know that usually these top 10 lists usually list very touristical places and I knew that if I wanted something more "unknown" I would have to be specific. I did not have to look up anything additional in order to come up with this better prompt

3) Human Intervention:

  1. Brooklyn Flea: This outdoor market features vintage and handmade items, as well as food vendors.
  2. The Elevated Acre: This hidden gem is a public space located on top of a parking garage in the Financial District. It offers stunning views of the East River.
The person that I have in mind with these would be like an early 20 to 30 year old who like to thrift and go to vintage markets and do photography as well as explore the city on their own to find hidden gems and get a feel for the city.

What surprised me the most about this was how effective and specific chat GPT is, as this is my first time using it. If I were to go through articles and find these spots on my own it would take a while to compile a thorough list, but chat GPT just does it instantly.

I decided to remove the "descriptors" of what people could do at these locations, for example "It's a great place to find unique souvenirs or gifts" and "great place to relax and unwind" and this is because I did not want the description to already tell the person what that place was "supposed" to be for and for people to simply go to that space and figure out what they want to do without feeling constrained by anything.

The only potential concern I have about this is that in order to get exactly what you want, like if you're trying to get at something niche, you have to keep and keep refining till you get there, which could become time consuming.

I would also probably spend a lot of time withe friends and family and just exploring in general.

2) I think that regarding the issue of abortion and women's reproductive rigths, technology will have become very advanced so that it would be possible to detect a pregnancy even earlier than we can now and that new tools to detect such pregnancies will be developed and that they will be much more accurate. I also think that the methods of abortion will advance and become more "techy".
