I also found that I often don't understand why people engage in certain occupations, but I know I have to respect their process of engagement. Additionally, I often see occupation as a vehicle to understand engagement, meaning, value and purpose

(Still learning everyday though)

Occupation was generally divided into narrow categories of self care, work and leisure with no critique and from a western perspective. This was carried over into OT practise in all my jobs.

Stress/ discontentment arises when one's performance capacity (personal factors/performance components/performance range) do not match the inherent requirements of their desired occupations. That is to say, if an individual wishes to participate in certain occupations but are unable to, for any reason, it causes distress for that individual. Improving participation in occupations will improve quality of life.

For example, the success of a person (adult) with a disability is the person having a job, etc. But actually, the success could also be being able to get out of bed, and make koeksisters.
