The slang literacy community: what you should know to be a part of this community.

In order to be a part of the Slang literacy community, you need to know a base of words and meanings. It is quite simple because slang terms are normally very catchy and short. At first when you hear slang you might be confused especially if you have never heard of it, but soon after you start hearing these terms it becomes planted into your language. Not even the fact of speaking it, just being able to understand it. Besides the purpose of shortening language, slang is a fun way to mix up the way you talk or say everyday terms. There is also different slang terms that mean the same thing. It just depends where you live and the people you surround yourself with and what is known. Some people have a slang term that only they know of or that they “made up”.

To be included in and considered articulate in the English language, it is not as simple as slang. With slang you most likely already know the rules of english and are sometimes breaking them. But with “correct” english, there are a lot of rules. One thing that I do enjoy about english, is that no matter if there’s a correct way, there are so many ways to speak english. The way a person talks can often tell or show a lot about someone's personality. There is a tremendous difference between being able to understand english and speaking it. Although understanding english is a great skill, speaking it is a whole extra level. Being articulate in english means something different to each person. To me being articulate in english is being able to communicate and understand yourself and who you are speaking or listening to along basic guidelines of the english language. There’s no rule against speaking english your own way. Everyone has the right to speak english to show a piece of themselves.

My favorite part about being a part of this literacy community is being able to change simple and boring terms. It just makes everyday conversations more enjoyable, especially when the person you are talking to speaks the same slang as you. Speaking slang is a very broad and general literacy community. There is really nothing that qualifies against you as long as you have some sort of slang weather it is your own or a known slang. Slang is definitely not necessary but it is an interesting literacy to include into your speech.

I mean I live in the united states and was raised with English. I don’t exactly have a favorite part besides being able to communicate with just about everyone in America. It is a very helpful language to know. I am glad I was raised knowing English. I have heard it is just about one of the hardest languages to learn as a second or third or fourth etc. language.

Slang and English go hand and hand, slang is just a version of terms and words.
It is justa way to mix in words or phrases to make your conversation more appealing or interesting to a variety of people. if you know slang will attract different people the use it for them. if you know someone like your grandma for example will not understand what slang terms mean. Do not use slang when you are communicating with them. Slang is definatly not necessary but it popular.
