I'm placed with another TC so it's definitely helpful that we're going through the same thing together. I can tell it's a very upper class sort of school, surrounded by mansions. -Hybrid learning means some of us haven't met all students yet.
-Difficult to raise kids heart rates with masks on for gym class. Can't do face to face activities in general.
-Kids in smaller schools have been cohorted since kindergarten, more lax for activities since they truly are in their own bubble health-wise.
-Some Mentor Teachers are very busy. Teacher with homeroom gets dozens to over a hundred emails per day.

- only a hand full of students came in person, the rest were online
- my mentor teacher seems wonderful! almost 30 years of experience

It has prepared us thus far to be more patient with working in larger institutions and we are gaining a personal understanding of student and educator culture. Being prepared to work on the fly seems to be a normalized action. Students are very welcoming and curious creatures and a lot more mature in socialization than we think so long as we develop a clear and meaningful relationship with them, build off of respect.

It has been difficult integrating into the classroom right at the end of the semester when work has wound down but I am excited to start the new high school semester with the students as of this week. The online world is badly affecting their work and they are basically trying to catch up. My MT has a great relationship with the students and I jot down notes of how I want to build relationships with them and how I would like to approach teaching. I noticed how much high schools have changed since I was last in high school settings. I learned that the pandemic was hard on students, staff and families and it has been good to connect with classes and learn about students and why they love art, learning about what interests them and how they can explore there interests in the visual arts classroom.
