Science of Reading: The Podcast

Amplify Education

Science of Reading: The Podcast will deliver the latest insights from researchers and practitioners in early reading. Via a conversational approach, each episode explores a timely topic related to the science of reading.

Back to school: Supporting children with reading on return to school

I have always believed that reading is one of the most amazing gifts that we can give our learners. Stories can transport us away from our reality and take us on a magical journey which allows us to visit anywhere in the world and beyond. In today’s uncertain and unprecedented times, we perhaps need this escapism more than ever!

Blog post -

Literacy in Lockdown at Torquay Academy

There has understandably been what feels like a renewed interest in literacy recently, which has been brought into even sharper focus during this current period of home learning for the majority of our children. It is not difficult to appreciate that those factors which have led to many children falling behind are likely to be magnified as they attempt to access learning from home. The gaps that we all work so hard to address within school are now widening as the children who most need our support are even further from our grasp than ever before.
So how have we approached these challenging times, and what are we working towards now to tackle the issue when we eventually return? Most importantly we have responded as a whole school community, and this blog post sets out some of our key approaches.

Upcoming recorded CPD sessions:

Literacy as Intervention

Oracy and the Power of Dialogic Talk

Closing Reading and Vocabulary Gaps

Disciplinary Literacy and Explicit Vocabulary Instruction

Available on Staff CPD Teams channel after Easter along with resources to support
