They did their own research, wrote down facts, and made a poster. Then they used the tool LOOM to record their own news presentation. The students loved being in front of the camera. Some students who didn't have the best written facts were better at reporting their facts on camera. I plan to use this tool in the future for recorded readings, math explanations, explaining directions to my class, etc. It also links to their Google Drive account so set up is EASY!

Second grade
Meredith Weiss
I use google forms every day. I differentiate fact practice daily. It takes less than 5 minutes and students get immediate feedback. I put math lessons on google forms. Google can grade papers faster than me. Students check their score when they finish without prompting. Often they look to see why they missed problems. This real life problem solving is much better than me going over the test as a class. I have a theory that students get lower scores on math MAP and AIR assessments because they don't use scratch paper or white boards to work out the problems. Daily math with google forms gives them regular practice with this. But my favorite is reading tests. I attach an audio file with the test and I don't have to use class time to read tests to the students who need it. I can test all students at the same time with differentiated tests while some students have the test read to them. This is a great time saver. Google forms are super easy to create. They save me time and give my students more time for extension and extra practice.

I send a video link from MysteryDoug.com (FREE) to each students' Google Classroom account. There they independently watch a science video and then write a paragraph summary about the video. Students are able to rewatch the video (small time limit imposed in between watching sessions) as needed for details. This allows independent thinking and students to work at their own pace.

Deanna Weber, 2nd Grade, WVE
I have been using Readworks for RtI this year and love the differentiated text and variety of nonfiction topics. I've also played around with Google Classroom to have students watch videos on their own time and interact back with comments to the class. They have enjoyed this bit of freedom. And I can check their writing at home instead of carrying journals.

Marla George, 2nd Grade, Miamitown
I use Turtle Diary for math fact skill practice. There are multiple games for kids to choose from as well as multiple skill levels to address individual needs. My kids love "Addition Car Race." The faster they answer the fact correctly the faster their car goes and if they answer incorrectly, their car slows down. The advanced levels require regrouping.
