The Treatment of Natives

I believe that the treatment of Native Americans was not apart of Manifest Destiny at all. There was no need to steal their land, which we talked about a lot in our notes. Manifest Destiny never spoke about how you should take Native land and murder innocent Natives. The Americans started unnecessary wars. They stole land just because they felt they could. One of the battles was with the Seminale Natives happened because the Americans wrongly accused them of harboring runaway slaves and attacking American settlers. This showed that the Americans didn't care about the Natives at all and just wanted to hurt them.

Want not Need

The Americans just wanted the land to be powerful. There wasn't nearly enough people to fill all the land they wanted to take. They just went along with Manifest Destiny without knowing who created it or who was pushing the idea of it. They were powerhungry, they kept taking land from Natives. The Americans were blind to what was right. I'm not sure if any of them knew this was a want and not a need, but I know atleast some of them knew it was wrong. In our notes we talked about how they went west without any thought of why. They all risked their lives for no reason other than meaningless land. There were atleast 20,000 deaths on he trail west. The Donner Party is an example of how brutal and meaningless the deaths truly were. They were stranded for 5 months with no way to get help. Manifest Destiny made people like the Donner's die.

We didn't touch on this too much in class but I believe a lot of land was ruined and taken over by the Americans when they moved west. They made too many towns and I feel that the land of America today would have been much better if they didn't move. I know some other country would have taken the land but I think because of how fast the Americans moved into it made it get ruined faster. They overhunted animals and cut down many trees. They destroyed plants and made too many houses out of the materials of the land. I think this wasn't necessary whatsoever. They pushed Natives out of their rightful homes just to go and destroy the land.
