I used SchoolAI to chat about my lesson plan. I like the fact that AI gives me encouraging answers every time followed by a question to explore more the process of my thoughts. That gave me the chance to express my ideas about how I want my lesson to progress. It also gave me the opportunity to modify my questions to fit the learning levels of my students.

On the other hand, I noticed that SchoolAI is not well rounded as Gemini is. SchoolAI encouraged my thought, but it did not seem to have the deep knowledge about advanced programs in science. That is a much needed feature to teach the middle and high school students of our current generation.

I used SchoolAI SAMR to chat about a project in a 4th grade classroom that is being done right now in my school. I wanted to go to redefinition and that bot was able to chat with me about what they would look like. SchoolAI suggested using google earth for students to explore the area that the animals live, and document using the snipping tool or screen shots to be able to share their findings with their classmates. I also asking the bot how I could collaborate outside of the classroom and the suggestion was to use a padlet. I think my next steps would be to figure out padlet a bit better so see how I could use that. Also, I would like to dig deeper into the students using google earth for this project and what problems we may experience with that.

I used SchoolAI chat to explore using the SAMR model for increasing DOK with students for math content. SchoolAI offers great suggestions for increasing student interactions and imbedding AI and assessment features into lessons. I appreciate the questions prompts used as it allows for an exploration of strategies and improvement to lesson planning endeavors using SAMR. I used an example involving students creating a google slides presentation explaining a math topic, and SchoolAI suggested imbedding AI for the purpose of quizzing students throughout the presentation in the format of a google form. I thought this was interesting and utilized many technology tools.

This was my first time using an AI chatbot for the classroom, and it was very interesting. It was like having a teaching partner to bounce ideas off of. I could definitely see myself using something like this in the future.

I used the example of using google slides to have the students create a writing project. AI suggested using it to have students share ideas and give feedback. My students have significant disabilities, so the AI chatbot gave me some ideas of how I could teach students to do something like that, for example, creating a checklist or a video teaching the concept.

Erin McDermott

I discovered that the AI chatbot asked specific, focused questions on the SAMR model. The chatbot was very knowledgeable about the topics. The questions that I have are how the chatbot can be so knowledgeable and so direct with the questions, and also, where does the chatbot obtain this information? My next steps to continue learning are to continue working with the chatbot to become more comfortable with AI, and explore more AI chatbots. I have only used ChatGPT before the SchoolAI Space.

I discovered several ways to use Google Tools to create a lesson with the SAMR model. I chose to explore the option of Redefinition and create a lesson that involved students exploring different French speaking countries through virtual field trips to learn about the different cultures there. I got many good ideas for assessing students learning such as using Google forms for reflections along the way and having students present about their findings using presentations or videos. I am curious what other Google tools I can use to help make this project more efficient. My next steps are to look into other projects and lessons that follow the SAMR model that can be incorporated into a French classroom.

-Lindsay Styrlund

It was very interesting chatting with the chat bot. It taught me about google jam board which is a whiteboard online. I could use this to help students collaborate on math word problems together. I would also be able use google forms to create a small quiz to assess what they know. I liked how I was able to bounce my ideas off the chatbot and it would acknowledge my ideas and ask me questions on how to make it better. It was continually asking questions that would improve the lesson and help the lesson to run smoothly. It also gave ideas for any problems I might run in too. I will use jam board for math problem solving to help the students grow with collaborating with each other. I will also use google forms to assess the students.

I think I would also use the chatbot to ask about different questions I have and to bounce ideas off of it.

I can make shape flash cards, but also make it interactive where she sorts them. In addition, the bot recommended using Google Earth to find real shapes on the map.

I do not have a ton of experience working with Google Slides, so my next steps are to spend some time familiarizing myself with this tool and other tools that Google offers.

It was pleasant engaging with the chatbot. In the beginning, I felt like I was being quizzed or interviewed because it asked me about my familiarity with SAMR and how I saw it used in the classroom. Once I got more comfortable with the bot, I was able to ask questions and seek support. I brought up the use of Gemini with older students and privacy concerns and the bot suggested Google Classroom instead and as a result, the suggestion for application did not quite get at the original intent of the idea. This lets me know the next steps in my learning includes exploring how to leverage these tools for all ages given privacy limitations.

I explored SchoolAI SAMR by putting in a current lesson that my 4th grade students are working on in math. As I chatted with the tool, it narrowed down what I was looking for to come up with the leveled ideas to implement SAMR with teaching how to add fractions. The tool gave me a 5-day plan to both help those needing reteaching and those needing extensions. It incorporated a variety of learning options, such as Google Jamboard. I ended up looking up a video on how to use Jamboard. I like that this tool allows my students to collaborate on a concept in a quick and easy way.

The only thing I wasn't sure how to use that the SchoolAI shared with me is how to download the file they created for me to use this lesson. When I clicked on the download it just opened a new window with the same chat.

As I teach a wide range of subjects right now, I chose to let the SchoolAI SAMR guide me. It lead me through grade ranges, subject ranges (although, interestingly enough, it only offered Language Arts or Science as options for 6th grade), and two topic-choices. Then, it generated a lesson plan that it specified when each level of SAMR was used. The lesson plan was basic and the paper it provided to copy and past would need some more fleshing out, but I liked the lesson it shared for developing and monitoring ecosystems in a bottle. I wish the formatting of assignments were easier with this AI, but it is simple to fix on my own. I would like to continue to play around with it to give the AI specific lessons already used and see how SAMR is already being used and where it could be added it. I tend to do a lot with the S and A already, but not as much with M and R. I would like to use this to give me ideas to add in those levels.

I chose to explore the SchoolAI Space. It was interesting to interact with the Chatbot. I asked it to help me create a Grade 5 Tessellation Art Project. It created a lesson that was similar to the pen and pencil Tessellation project I used to do with middle school students. (As a reminder, I am not currently in my own classroom, I am working as a substitute teacher).
I did really like the way the bot offered suggestions for how to use technology at a variety of points to improve upon the lesson using current digital tools. Students could use online tools to draw and copy their repeating lines. This is a task that can be overwhelming to some students with paper and pencil. They can then use the computer aided design to trace onto paper for the finished project.
Some other options would be filling out exit tickets in Google Classroom or taking photos of their work in order to create an online portfolio of student work. We could also use Classroom to create a space for students to share positive and constructive critique with their classmates.
It was a productive activity and I’m thankful for the exploration of SchoolAI.

I had it create questions covering Similar Triangles, the content I will be teaching when break ends. The questions are exactly what I would expect off my previous DOK knowledge and my new understanding after the reading (so many hesitations/confusions apparently) DOK 1 was basic repetition of the simple basic understanding of "here is the measurements are they similar" or "here is the ratio Side A is 5 what is the other length", DOK 2 more work needed to verify which of the batch are similar to each other, DOK 3 then mixes in word problems (everyone's favorite) and then DOK 4 was more of designing projects and experiments to really g that extra mile. My school currently uses Big Ideas Math which is big on DOK, so I am familiar with the question tier styling. These generated questions are exactly in line with those from the book so it makes sense to me. I am not a big fan of AI, especially the excessive use that students are doing with it, so it is nice to see actual quality uses for the technology. It seems to have improved from my last attempt at generating Geometry questions (the last time was NOT good).
