Growing up I was never very artistic. I couldn't draw or paint and art was not encouraged as much I was getting older. Once I was in high school I was required to take an arts class. I didn't want to sing or play an instrument or draw so I thought photography would be fun and easy. Once I got into the class and actually started working in the different types of photography I fell in love with it. I loved going to class and I took the class for a couple years. My teacher was amazing and I got to learn so much about photography. At my high school we had a event each year to show off all the different forms of art and my junior year I had three of my photographs in the event. I was proud of myself of how far I had come in two years. Taking photography showed me an art form that I never knew I would love.
Below are just two of my favorite photos I have taken and that were featured in my high schools event.

Reason 5: The Arts Stimulate Higher Thinking

When people look at art it makes them think in many different ways to try and understand it. Art comes in many different forms and the meaning behind the art is sometimes up to the viewer. The artiest does not always make the meaning of their art clear. Art can me made to make people sit back and think. For example in photography many famous photographers used their photos to show and prove a point of what is going on in the world to make the viewer think. When I was in my photography class we were shown different photographers work and told to sit and think about what it means. The photos we looked at showed poverty, oppression, loss, hunger, war, love, and much more. We were told to take what we see and think about how we could do that with our art. Being in photography taught and encouraged me to think in a different way to get others to think deeper about what my work meant. Bringing in different art forms can help students understand and thinker deeper about different topics and help them learn.Seeing the impact of something can impact the effect it has more than words can at times. Seeing what is happening can have someone really take a step back and think. Having students use art to stimulate higher thinking can help them analyze and understand what is being taught. When the students are asked to teach others about a topic they can use art to help their peers understand it better than just listening to someone talk about it. Art can leave a lasting impact that can sit with them for a long time and make them think at a higher level and not just a surface level.
