Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is an example of leisure expressed through martial arts, a form of movement. The origin begins with a Japanese judo master teaching judo to a Brazilian family. One of the men was smaller and weaker, he adapted and tweaked the moves allowing anyone to use them regardless of size.

This art form is now practiced by thousands of Americans allowing anyone to learn and participate. The origin and culture of the art encourages people to invent new techniques.
If you watch someone in jiu jitsu, their style can often reflect their personality. This art form provides you with the opportunity to express yourself through your movements.

Visit Sweden

I can sum up three different ideas for my Bucket List. The first is to visit the beautiful country of Sweden, also known as Sverige.
I had always heard from my Finnish neighbors how beautiful the Nordic countries were. They enthusiastically suggested on a frequent basis that I should visit them some day. Not until digging in my past many years later did I realize to my surprise that I have a connection to Nordic countries.

Through my own research I found out that my mom descends from Swedes and Norwegians. She new about the Norse, but not the Swedish side of her family. That happens to be on her dad's side. Through family tree research and genetic testing I was able to pinpoint what part of Sweden our ancestors came from.

This goal of going to Sweden is more of an intrinsic meaning more than anything. This trip is not so much for me, but for my mother. She was naive to her ancestry and where much of her roots originate from. It would bring me an endless amount of happiness to make her happy.

Usually people will say they want to go to Egypt or somewhere similar. My opinion is that is a form of sight sacralization, more to do with seeing others post pictures on instagram or social media. My bucket list trip is to help connect my mother and I with our roots.

The trip could be kind of spiritual too. It could bring a closer connection for us, unite my mom and I with the land of our ancestors. We could meet cousins too. I have been working on getting in touch with folks in Jonkoping.

She and I have started saving $100 a month for our trip. There are numerous places to buy discounted airline tickets such as Hopper or Skyscanner. I have located a couple of Airbnb properties to stay. We plan on realizing this goal in two years.

Solving a genealogy mystery

Number two on my bucket list is solving a genealogy mystery of mine that's been haunting me for four plus years.

One of my leisure activities is genealogy and family tree making. I know it's kind of odd for a younger man to be into that sort of thing, but I am. I enjoy leisure pursuits of an inartistic nature and benefit.

I have a pretty solid success rate so far of finding lost loved ones. I did find my dad's sister a year ago, that took me two plus years to solve. This nut is harder to solve though. My mom's paternal grandfather is a mystery. His biological father is unknown and a mystery.

This endeavor is for sure one of my intellectual pleasures in life. Kind of all consuming at times, which I freely admit.

My mother's paternal grandfather was Verner Riles, Verner by the way is of Swedish extraction. Again, his father is unknown to us. The picture above is Verner's mother, Julia Isaacson Riles.

How do I plan on solving this? Well, I have been using dna tests and genetic testing sites such as AncestryDNA and many others. A brand new industry has blown up, tons of money is involved in this leisure activity that millions of folks around the world are now partaking in.

My next step in solving this case is to get my uncle tested, specifically his y-dna tested and look for positive matches. Those matches will have similar names and then hopefully this case will be solved and then on to the next one.

Cabin in West Virginia.

My final Bucket list item is to purchase a cabin in West Virginia.

First of all it's a beautiful state and that's where my family on my dad's side are from and still reside to this day.

This space will provide me with my much loved and needed silence and solitude.

Silence enables me to clear my head, my thoughts are much clearer. My ambition and goal setting are renewed.

This land and cabin would provide a space free of distractions from social media like tv, cell phones, and computers. To me that's true freedom, the ability to roam around in the woods, free of obligations and outside interference.

I plan on making this dream a reality by saving a little aside every month in savings and in my bitcoin until I can make this happen.

I keep my eyes open on the websites Trulia and their competitors to keep a watch on the prices of land and cabins. I can save a cabin that I like on the app and go back to it later. I do that to compare to similar properties. In that aspect, technology is a great tool. Funny thing is, I can't wait to run into the woods to get a way from that same technology.
