Tom Buchanan is Nick's cousin and lives in the East Egg with his wife Daisy. “Two sparkling arrogant eyes had built superiority over his face and gave him the appearance of always leaning aggressively forward,” Nick says of Tom. Tom comes across as a liar in this definition. Nick also used the terms supercilious, fractiousness, and scorn to characterize Tom. Being supercilious means acting or appearing as though one believes one is superior to others. The characteristic of being inclined to disobedience and a lack of discipline is known as fractiousness. Contempt is described as a lack of respect combined with a strong dislike. All of these definitions make Tom seem to be a jerk.Tom's home is a red-and-white Georgian Colonial mansion with a rosy-colored interior. The color red is synonymous with hostility and contempt. Daisy, on the other hand, is depicted in a white gown, which is synonymous with purity and harmony. First, all of the old money or people born into wealth are definitely changing how they handle money; they are possibly treating this money as though it is nothing special, and are perplexed as to how others survive without it. The west egg, on the other hand, are people of new money or a booming trade who got rich quickly, they treat money very differently, they are more likely to save because they know what it is like to be without, they are probably more likely to be kinder and more generous to those trying to get where they are now, they are probably more likely to be kinder and more generous to those trying to get where they are now, they are probably more likely to be kinder and more generous to those trying to get where they are now. Then there's the Valley of Ashes, which is described as a bleak place with the colors used and the use of smoke, leading me to believe that this is a very industrial place with no hope of improvement. Finally, there is New York, which was and still is a place where dreams come true, and the people who live there are dreamers and determined people who refuse to let life control them; instead, they take control of their lives. It means that her social class is very high because she doesn't care whether she can afford a new drive without being sticky to her car. When it comes to setting, social classes come from each city, West Egg is full of "new" money, and East Egg is filled with money from its heritage. I think that in more than one social class, certain characters can "pass." For instance, Gatsby's party can make fantastic items such as outfits and jewelry part of a higher social class. And you can tell by what she says and by the way she acts that she doesn't need or want to care and she's perfectly fine with being selfish, she has the money to spare so it shouldn't matter to her. And if gatsby is good friends with this man he would look like not everything he says is true about him. Gatsby says he’s a man who just moved here fought in a war and he got his money when his parents died but he’s friends with a gambler. It was a way for him to remain strong and create the life he now has. He used his affection for Daisy to get to where he is now because of Daisy's wealth dream. The color green can also reflect a new beginning in Daisy and Gadsby's love and the future for them. In reality, his name was James Gatz, and his family was a poor and failed agricultural family from North Dakota. In addition, he attended St. Olaf Community College and worked as a janitor until quitting because he thought the work was beneath him. Then, at the age of 17, he returned to the shores of Lake Superior and met Dan Cody, who hired him, sailed with Gatsby, and showed him how rich people behaved and behave. He inherited $25,000 after 5 years but was unable to accept it. When he met Dan Cody on his boat, Nick assumed he was already prepared with his new name and persona, Jay Gatsby, and had "witnessed the beginning of his career." Those aspects demonstrate his eagerness and wish to be wealthy, as well as his desire to achieve all he pictured in his thoughts. It’s hard to say who daisy loves, she may love the both in different ways and I think Tom loves the idea of daisy and girl to have kids and make him look good. I'm not sure what this is intended to signify, but if I had to guess, I'd say it means that someone is always watching and that the acts you choose will have to live with and suffer the repercussions. "We drew in deep breaths . . . as we walked back . . . through the cold vestibules, unutterably aware of our identity with this country for one strange hour, before we melted indistinguishably into it again". This quote comes at the end of the novel, when Nick recalls being in college and taking the train home to the Midwest with his fellow students. After the train leaves Chicago and begins heading west, Nick and his friends are aware of themselves as true Westerners, which to Nick is very different from being an Easterner. I think nick felt a responsibility to Gatsby to try and make sure everything would go smoothly, and I'm sure he was pleasantly surprised when he found out Gatsby's father was gonna show up but still. In this text Gatsby has a love that cannot be because the women he used to love is now married and in the same case with Romeo and Juliet they are lovers who cannot be together because of there houses. And they both go around sneaking with each other doing things they probably shouldn’t. The only thing that’s a bit different is that Romeo and Juliet is in a more medieval time and that The Great Gatsby takes place in the 1920’s. But I can also relate to Gatsby he has a dream and will make it happen by any means. I have goals that I will work hard for and will strive to achieve them and just like gatsby I have a little list of things I should do to better myself. Celebrities most frequently represent the American dream of having money for happiness, which is the notion of glamorizing money and celebrity's. I believe that this has led many people to believe that money is the only way to obtain fulfillment and pleasure, and therefore is leading to many people feeling less fulfilled when they don't have money or spending money they don't have and then going into debt.
