At first glance, the poem didn't make much sense to me. But after listening and re-reading, the poem struck harder and harder and deeper and deeper like the back of an unbroken enslaved black man. The imagery used in The Tradition is sharp and precise yet still colorful enough to mask the pain behind it well. "We thought Fingers in dirt meant it was our dirt," This line probably means that despite the ground that these men were shoved to, when they set roots there, it became theirs. While it paints these men as the three flowers from the beginning of the poem, "Aster. Nasturtium. Delphinium," yet it also subtly symbolizes slavery in the past and working in the fields. "Summer seemed to bloom against the will Of the sun," In this quote, I think that "Summer" refers to the black society as it, as we, continue to blossom and bloom,  grow and prosper, and succeed despite and against the will of "the sun" which could represent a higher power like the police.   
"Brought in seconds, colors you expect in poems Where the world ends, everything cut down." This line depicts the moments before death where these three men, these three beautiful flowers, were cut down.

He wanted the news to see the human in those black men that the police treated like animals. I think maybe he chose flowers because flowers are delicate and like an innocent plant. They don't do nothing yet we pull them out the ground and stop on them sometimes. It's possible those flowers specifically represent those men. After looking into it, all the italicized words other than the names are all flowers. Those flowers being cut down represent the black men who've been killed because of racist police. When he said the sweat of off our dead fathers necks I am sure that he meant slavery and our great grandfathers working in the fields. The way Jericho used family tones to represent how they were of the same race. In general the dark undertones of a poem hiding under the words of flowers were truly beautiful

The 'fingers in the dirt' most likely meant them being equal by doing the same things. Someone born with a target on their back isn't going to make it that far and that's where the real discrimination comes in.
