My strengths include motivating students and empowering them so they can decide what is important to them and make concrete plans to work towards their academic goals. 

One experience that validates the work I do is that which I had with a student, Anne, whom I tutored in Mathematics. When I first met her she was not confident in math and was consistently failing. After three months of work with her, she was able to grasp key concepts and apply her conceptual understanding in her math tests. She was thus able to achieve significant improvements in her grades, getting A and Bs instead of Fs. She also was able to change her mindset and attitude towards Math. Whereas she had previously felt like she was “hopeless” in math, she transformed into someone who felt competent and confident in the subject.

in my journey to earning a boatload of money, i have been through many experiences, good and bad. one of my proudest moments was passing my math because i would be one step closer to getting good enough grades to give myself better options in the future. this was of course only achieved because of the setback i faced, failing math. failing math made me motivated to pass math.

One of the people I consider as a good influence in my life is my sister. I look up to her when it comes to making life decisions because she is much more mature and knowledgeable than me. In fact, I joined Malay Dance as a CCA because I wanted to follow her footsteps, and it was one of the best decisions I have made in my life.

To date, I have been in Malay dance for almost 10 years, ever since I was in Primary 1. Through the CCA, I discovered some of my strengths. Empathy and care is one of the examples. As an experienced dancer, I would help out others who require help in learning the dance and put myself in their shoes in order to help them understand the dance steps well. Apart from those, I also learnt how to be a better leader due to my appointment as a CCA leader. I realised the importance of balancing fun and strictness to lead a group well. People may not listen when I am too relaxed, neither will they like it if I am too strict. I hope that these qualities will be able to help me and others now or in near future

One experience that validates my leadership ability is that i am a logistic manager in my CCA. There was a period of time where our CCA is changing venue so the equipment needs to be transported to another place of the school. My CCA teacher has talked to my peers and juniors about the moving of equipment and asked for volunteers but none volunteered. Therefore, i have the job to convince them to stay back after sports days to move the equipment. Through the communications skills i learn from the leadership workshops, i was able to convince enough members to help move the equipment and we even finished it 15 minutes from what i expected.

Academically, I have a few achievements, such as competing in the Physics and Mathematics Olympiads. I have also achieved the Edusave Scholarship award in Secondary 3, which is awarded to those that achieved the top 10% in their school. In class, I am usually one of the top few students when it comes to achieving good grades for both Mathematics and Sciences.
However, this was not the case for my first 2 years as a secondary school student. I was not fairing well in my studies and failed a lot of my tests. In Secondary 3, I decided that enough was enough and that I had to work harder if I wanted to achieve my ideal grades. I started paying more attention during class by changing my sleeping habits first. I actively took down notes when the teachers went through the lessons and my grades improved exponentially. In the first term, I already attained 4 A grades out of 7 of my subjects. This was the motivation that I needed and I continued working hard throughout the year, which then lead me to achieve the Edusave Scholarship Award.

My co-curricular activity (CCA) is Football. Football has taught me to be a team player and an individual achiever. The sport requires teamwork and also an individual's abilities on the pitch. It has taught me to persevere and not flail when it gets tough during training and matches.

I am a student in Bowen Secondary School and I love to play badminton as it is a fun sport and it taught me many values. For example, resilience and discipline. I need to have discipline as badminton requires a lot of time to practise just like any other sport, and I have to juggle both studies and sports at the same time. Hence, I have to have discipline as every second is precious as I have a busy school schedule. I also learnt resilience as a badminton match can last as long as 1.5-2 hours, which can be tiring for the mind, causing one to lose concentration and give up gradually.

Growing up, I was always obsessed with only two things in my life, football and planes. Everything in my life evolves around it. Being a footballer was my dream when young but when you are in Singapore, it is quite difficult to become one. Thus i decided to explore my other passion for planes and travelling around the world, in other words, being a pilot. Travelling with my family would always be my highlight of the year. Many of my uncles are also pilots and I would often immerse myself into their stories and experiences that they often would share about the process of becoming a pilot and the actual flying itself. Some stories, especially when in the air sounds scary but it also excites me as i love a challenge. These stories further amplified my interests in becoming a pilot and ever since then i was engrossed with any information about planes or becoming a pilot. 

My strengths include being able to stay calm under pressure and make decisions in critical moments. I was the captain of my school football team and there were many times where our team was losing and they depended on me to guide them and tell them what to do. So as a captain it was my responsibility to keep their spirits high and make certain decisions when our usual tactics was not working. Therefore there was a lot of pressure on me to make those decisions. At first it was overwhelming but the more games i played the more comfortable i became with those type of situations. Thus i can apply these strengths when flying a plane. For example if something went wrong I would need to make quick decisions in order to save the lives of the people in the plane and thus with further training and my strengths, I think i will make a good pilot.

Besides in the academic area, my other strengths includes being able to empathise with others.
