How and Why did your family come to the United States?

My family came down to the states by plane. They saved money and packed their bags to find a better life and opportunities over here.

What were the obstacles that they met?

One obstacle was a language barrier, at first nobody in my family spoke English but eventually my mom and my uncles learned how to speak it. However, my grandparents never got to be able to learn it proficiently. Often times, my mom and uncles had to skip school to help with translating things with my grandparents. Another obstacle was money, since my family came from a 3rd-world country, they didn't have a lot of things saved up and had to work very hard and live in a 1 bedroom apartment with 5 people.

What was going on Historically in the U.S. during this time and did it affect your family?

My family came down after the Vietnam War (around the 80's) and arrived in the Westminster/San Diego area for a bit. And then they moved down to Oceanside.
