It would be helpful if department chairs was able to provide key vocabulary words and academic terms used in that particular department. More cross-curricular learning for ESL students would assist in developing academic knowledge faster.

Video Database of Teachers Using EL Strategies

It would be very helpful if a database was created that housed various videos of teachers using effective EL practices in their classrooms. The database should be accessible to all staff and could be categorized. For example, one category could be for high school English, another for middle school math, etc. This database would allow teachers to see others using the strategies and help them implement them into their classrooms.

Multicultural assemblies

I wish we had more assemblies as a whole, but it would be nice if we had singing or dancing or something multicultural for students to take part in.

Whether it be at lunch, or a peer-buddy/mentor or club or after-school events or in-school game playing, it seems like it would be helpful to intentionally create more opportunities for EL students to interact with non-EL students.

Encouraging teachers to incorporate ELs' native languages

In order to make EL students feel more comfortable in the classroom, teachers could have the students learn a few words in the EL student's native language.

Spend time to get to know more about the ELL in the classroom and their family and background. Go beyond the profile to get to know their interests to help build supports and scaffolds in the classroom
