In 1994, Dr. Travis Hux joined Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau to pursue a bachelor's degree in elementary education, concentrating on social studies. Upon graduating in 1998, Dr. Travis Hux immediately put his acquired skills to practical use, taking on the role of a sixth-grade teacher at Cape Girardeau Public Schools in the same city.

Concurrently, he enrolled in a master's program in educational administration at the same university to further his studies. Following the program's completion, Dr Hux joined Charleston R-1 School District in Missouri as an assistant principal, overseeing 600 students and 80 employees. He simultaneously did his doctoral degree in educational leadership at Saint Louis University, which he obtained in 2004. A year later, he continued his role as an assistant principal, this time at St. Clair Junior High School.

From 2006 to 2009, Dr Travis Hux was the assistant director of human resources for the Raytown C-2 School District. He oversaw various HR functions, including certification, recruiting, and technology management for classified employees.

Subsequently, the Raytown C-2 School District promoted him to an assistant superintendent of support services, tasked with non-academic operations like facilities, food services, transportation, safety, and energy management. This institution served 8,000 students and 1,400 employees. Among Dr. Hux's achievements was implementing an energy education program (which saved the institution over $2 million in costs over a four-year period) and building a clinic and wellness center for staff.
