In the book Stung, there is a extinction of bees which drastically affects their ecosystem. Scientist believed that if they made genetically modified bees that they could take place of the bees that we killed. The genetically altered bees didn't work as planned and they ended up killing all of the bees that we had left, and the stings the bees gave you were deadly. Scientist tried fixing their mistake of a bee's problem by giving some kids and adults a "cure" that would leave you immune to the sting the bees gave you. The cure eventually caused anyone that got it to become a huge, deadly, and destructive beast. A level one being not a big deal because they only got one shot of the cure, and a level ten being the most deadly. They built a wall to keep all the non vaccinated safe and to keep the beasts away from everyone. Behind the wall you cant be obese (according to their strict and heinous regulations, and they have to give everyone a small portioned meal so they can feed every person) and once you reach the age 55 you have to leave. The main character in Stung and an important character in Cured goes to find her mom in a safe place in Colorado with no rules and regulations, and healthy bees. The main character in Cured goes with her love interest to give the cure to stop his sister from being a beas and to go see his grandpa.

If you prefer more fake and dramatic, with a slight love interest, i highly recommend Cured and Stung
