"Love Simon" is a movie about a gay teen, Simon who goes to high school and has a close relationship with his family and friends. He has one secret nobody know: He is gay. After his friend Leah informs him about a confession online of a gay student (pseudonym: Blue), Simon starts communicating via email. One of Simons's emails ends up in the hands of Martin who threatens to publish it unless he helps him to be together with Abby. Simon wants to know who Blue is and therefore searches at the Halloween Party for him. As he meets Bram, his classmate, he thinks he could be Blue but catches him kissing female students. When Martin confesses his feelings for Abby, Abby tells him that she doesn't share his feelings. Therefore, Martin outs Simon by posting his emails on the school's gossip site. In the end, his family supports him and he is reconciled with his friends who were mad at him because of not telling them that he's gay. The movie ends at the school carnival when Simon rides the wheel. Before the ride begins, Bram reveals himself as Blue and they are kissing. Simon's life is getting normal and he starts a relationship with Bram.

Our opinion of the film

The film gives an insight into the challenges and feelings the protagonist has which leads to a lot of empathy because the protagonist is telling the plot. We liked the support of his family, especially the relationship with his mother. It is a typical young adult film: it takes place in high school, Simon is a teenager, social media is a big thing and there is part of bullies. In our opinion, the representation of coming out is stereotypical because it all leads to a happy end without any obstacles afterward. Besides the topic of homosexuality and the reaction of society, the film offers a lot more subjects such as finding out who you really are, cyberbullying, and the huge impact of social media in general which are important nowadays.
