I am researching and discussing the entertainment industry because it is one of the most creative and ever-evolving fields that is being shaped by artificial intelligence. Something I love about the entertainment industry is how it connects people through emotions; it allows for people to connect through movies, music, content, etc. I want to see how technology influences these connections. AI has become a huge factor within the entertainment industry, influencing things like visual effects on screen to personalized recommendations on streaming platforms. In this Padlet, I will cover three major areas of AI within the entertainment industry:

1) AI in film and visual effects

2) AI in music and sound design

3) AI in streaming and audience personalization

What interests me the most is how AI really blurs the line between authentic creativity and the use of machines. While it makes content more innovative and accessible, it also makes you wonder about the authenticity and ethics regarding the finished material. I find it both cool yet unsettling how AI can create brilliant art. But it makes you wonder how dependent the entertainment industry is on using artificial intelligence. It is important to understand the future of AI in this industry while also making sure ethics is involved.

AI in Film & Visual Effects

Artificial Intelligence is transforming film production in big ways. Studios now use deepfake technology and Generative Adversarial Networks to de-age actors, make more realistic CGI, and even include historical figures on screen. According to Lalla, AI reduces production costs and also allows creative storytelling that was once not a possibility. However, these tools also raise major ethical concerns about authenticity and digital consent, especially when adding in figures who aren’t alive anymore. Personally, I find this specific technology fascinating because it allows for a whole new world of creativity to be pushed out. AI can preserve film history but at the same time it also distorts reality if not used correctly.

AI in Music Creation & Sound Design

AI is now mixing, composing, and mastering music using machine learning. Tools like AIVA and Amper Music analyze thousands of tracks to generate new compositions. There are many mixed reviews on AI being incorporated into the music field. There have been many issues with copyright as AI has been creating music that is extremely similar to songs from artists, not real distinguishable traits. This raises major issues when using AI. But despite that, it also can assist artists by speeding up production. I find this interesting because it can help lower creative barriers, but it also raises so many questions on actual creativity in music and what is and isn’t human-made.

AI in Streaming & Audience Personalization

Streaming platforms like Spotify and Netflix use predictive analytics and machine learning to recommend personalized content. Algorithms analyze user data to boost engagement and predict what the watcher wants next. This helps as it improves the watchers experience and limits exposure to content they seem to stray away from. Of everything that was researched, this area combined with AI seems the most reasonable to me. I like how AI tailors entertainment to individual tastes. It makes the watching experience seem more personal. The downside to this though is that our data is being tracked closely, it is a reminder that personalization and privacy must have a balance.

Future Trends & Ethical Considerations

The future of AI in the entertainment industry looks both exciting and also unpredictable. As technology keeps advancing and expanding, we will probably see even more AI-generated films, shows, music, content, etc. Studios are already looking at experimenting with fully written scripts generated by AI as well as virtual actors. This changes so much in the entertainment industry. Not only does it change how the stories are made, but this negatively impacts the jobfield for actors and actresses. It seems as if we are going to have a future where it will be extremely hard to tell the difference between human creativity and machine-made content. It is important to discuss the ethical concerns that come with inviting AI into the entertainment industry. I feel the biggest issue is authenticity. AI can replicate a person’s voice and face; it makes you wonder how we can protect someone's consent and originality. The misuse of deepfake and copyright questions are at an all time high, especially with social media booming. There have been serious issues online where people take celebrities and AI-generate them to make it sound like they are either saying something offensive and/or involved in a bad situation. This can cause legal drama in the entertainment business. There are also the issues involving job displacement in creative fields. If artificial intelligence takes over in creating films, making music, editing… it impacts actors/actresses, script writers, editors, composers. Personally, I think AI can be beneficial in a creative space in terms of productivity. But it needs to be used responsibly. There has to be ethical guidelines to make sure innovation doesn’t cross into misusing these tools. It is all about balance: using AI to enhance the creative space, not erase the human aspect that makes art feel like art.

Societal Impact

Artificial Intelligence's impact on the entertainment industry goes far beyond film and streaming services, it reshapes society’s relationship with work, creativity, and authenticity. One major effect is on employment. As mentioned in the ethical considerations section, AI taking over tasks such as scriptwriting, video editing, even AI-generated actors, creative jobs are at risk of being pushed aside by artificial intelligence. As mentioned in Morgan Stanley (2025), while AI can improve efficiency and lower the production costs of films and videos, it also forces artists to go up against machines that aren’t as demanding since they don’t require pay. This in itself creates a major tension between technological progress and labor. Another major concern is privacy. Streaming platforms such as Netflix and Spotify rely on user data to create a personalized experience. This means that user information is constantly being collected and used; things like preferences, what the user is viewing, even emotional responses. This enhances a user's experience, but it also raises questions about the access companies have to our personal data and how they use it. Then there are the issues with equity and representation involving AI. If algorithms use biased data, they can promote stereotypes by mistake. Personally, I think this section can be really disastrous as AI can hold a lot of power to shape culture, but it can also repeat society’s flaws if not careful. All in all, doing extensive research into this has made me see how AI can be used as both a creative tool but it is also a responsibility. The impact goes far beyond entertainment and art, it affects people's values, their perceptions of art, and who gets to have a say in shaping culture years down.

Looking into AI in the entertainment industry has taught me how deeply technology and creativity are interconnected. I learned that AI can be beneficial in a creative space, it can open doors for innovation and efficiency. But it also holds ethical and social concerns that need to be dealt with responsibly. One challenge I faced was trying to narrow down huge topics into clear examples. There is so much material to cover in regards to AI and the entertainment industry- it is clear how infiltrated it has become with artificial intelligence. This project changed how I see AI; it is not just a tool, it can be used as a creative force. But if used, it needs human guidance and responsibility to keep the art meaningful and authentic to the creators.
