Melilla is a Spanish city located on the north coast of Africa. It shares a border with Morocco. Melilla has an area of 12.3 km2.

Climate
The climate is typically Mediterranean, mild and humid, with east and west winds and occasionally winds from Sahara. Average temperatures in Melilla reach 13ºC in winter and 24ºC in summer.

Atlas Mountains,

They are a series of mountain ranges in northwestern Africa, running generally southwest to northeast to form the geologic backbone of the countries of Maghreb (the western region of the Arab territory)-Morocco,Algeria and Tunisia. They extend for more than 2,000 kilometers, from the Moroccan port of Agadir in the southwest, to the Tunisian capital of Tunisia in the northeast. Their thick rim rises to form a high sill separating the Mediterranean basin to the north from the Sahara to the south, plus it's also constituting a barrier that hinders, without completely preventing, communication between the two regions.

The Río de Oro

It's a river which flows in northeast Morocco to reach the Mediterranean Sea at the harbour of Melilla.Rio de Oro was a Spanish territory that later became the southern part of Spanish Sahara.

The Spanish Sahara

Spain formed Spanish Sahara in 1958 by uniting the territories of Saguira ,el-Hamra and Rio de Oro, whilst ceding Tarfaya, Tan-Tan and the Cape Juby strip to Morocco.

Cultural moument: Church of la Purísima Concepción

Built in the XVII century. Inside there are three naves with altar stones and Baroque reredos by San Francisco. Dedicated to the patron saint of the town Virgen de la Victoria. Of note inside is the XVI century font and the Cristo de la Vera Cruz, from the end of the XV century.
