·      The journal of Environment and Behavior have studied that people felt more relaxed and happier after watching a tank with fish. 

·      Also, another study by researchers have shown that seniors exposed to an aquarium filled with fish have shown a significant reduction in blood pressure. Watching fish has been shown to calm children who suffer from hyperactivity disorder. This proves that there are health benefits to have a fish tank.

·      On the flip side, fish tanks are hard to maintain. Unlike some sayings that fishes are one of the easiest pet to keep, many other avid fish tank keepers go against that. Here are a few reasons why:

1)   If you get a fish tank that is too small, it will cause a lot of problems, from stunted growth, aggressive fish and unstable water parameters. All three will result in your fish dying

2)   Secondly, algae will grow on the sides of the fish tank if it is firstly, exposed to sunlight, and secondly, not cleaned properly. Algae growth is normal and healthy but too much will cause harm to the fishes and plants.

·      I suggest starting with mollies as they are ‘hardy’ fish and do not die easily. They also breed easily. They are also very cheap. They help the tank too by eating algae and digging around in the dirt, which helps it to loosen up the dirt in the gravel for the filter to pick up.

·      Also, another good fish to add is the Siamese Algae Eater as it has a peaceful nature and can eat most of the commonly found algae such as the Black Beard Algae. 

·      I also think you should add a few water plants. This will enhance the water quality and help algae growth by using nutrients produced by fish waste, uneaten food and organic debris. Some examples of plants that you can add are: Amazon Sword, Java Fern and Dwarf Sagittaria.

·      I think you can put a log so that the fishes have places to hide, which allows the fishes to reproduce and so other fishes will not eat the baby fish. However, it might allow more moss to grow on the log and affect the water quality. 

·      You should also put a fish filter which filters the water so that the fish will not die due to the water quality. 

·      An air pump is also a necessity as it promotes gas exchange between the air and the water. It makes it easier for the fish to breathe.

·      Pebbles or gravel should be put into the fish tank at the bottom of the tank as it will provide a home for the beneficial bacteria which will eliminate waste from the fish.

 

The tank needs to be kept at room temperature and should not be exposed to direct sunlight, as the sunlight will overheat the water and cause a rapid growth of algae. Hence, I also think that we should put the fish tank in the General Office so that the teachers and students can see and enjoy the fishes swimming in the fish tank while either marking their students' worksheets or waiting for their turn.

These fish are popular due to their hardiness, non-aggressive temperament and small size. It is quite easy to keep multiple Tetras in a tank together and they do not require large tanks. Most species of Tetra can be kept together quite easily.

Platies are very adaptable to a wide range of tank conditions and are also livebearers, so you may end up with more than two! They are bright in colour and make wonderful pets.

3. Guppies

These fish are popular due to the small size and colourful fan tails. Guppies are very hardy fish and since they are livebearers, it can be fun to watch the baby fish appear and grow in the tank.

It will help us to accurately measure the temperature we want our fish to live healthily, by having a thermometer, we will also be able to monitor even slight changes in the surroundings and the water temperature.

Most fish require a temperature of about 74 to 77 degrees F, so it will provide better distribution of heat throughout the fish tank.

It keeps the water quality clean to keep the fish healthy.

Live plants help remove ammonia, nitrite and nitrate from the water. They provide a hiding place for the fish, and also food for herbivorous species.

Substrate is part of creating a pleasant habitat for your fish. It gives the fish places to hide and it provides enrichment for bottom-dwellers that prefer to forage through the substrate for bits of food. Plus, it helps to reduce reflections within the tank that can stress fish and can provide a safe home for fish eggs. 

 ADVANTAGES:

1. Fish are known to have a tranquil, calming effect on anyone who watches them glide serenely through the water.
 
 2. Fish are easier and less expensive to feed and care for than other pets.

 

3. Fish won't track dirt and mud in from outdoors or shake litter from his paws all over the house, and he doesn't shed, slobber or drool. Fish are very clean pets that don't need to be groomed or have their teeth brushed.
 
 4. Fish are quiet as they do not bark or squawk and would not disturb and upset other neighbours. 

 

5. Fish teaches you about responsibility, care and love for other animals.
