Clients communicate with a server on the network. The clients store information that is needed for the system to run e.g. Operating system, drivers etc. The rest of the information is stored and downloaded on the server when required. This typically makes the information more secure since they require a username and password and all stored on a usually physically secure server. Although this usually requires more equipment resulting in a larger cost for the company/school.
