It depends, I belive we should include aspects of both ideas to ensure we can understand cultural perspectaive and have an idea of baseline standards. It is unfair to asume every culture has the same standards but it is also imposible to compare cultures if there isn't any univeral stnadards.

I think we should be a bit more relativist. If we thought more universalist, I feel like other countries cultures would be ignored. Other countries have different culture traditions but I don't feel like it's anyone's place but the people in those counties to change those traditions. Each country's culture should be left alone and only altered if those in it wish to change it. Although I do believe that there should be universal basic human rights.

I can see both sides of the argument, at the end of the day i feel like both sides have valid points. Not everyone should do as one culture says, but then i feel like we are progressing so there should be change. Like abortion, in some countries its allowed and considered healthcare while in other countries it would be considered a crime. At the end of the say I think anyone should practice or think what they want as long as its not harming anyone else. Not everyone will agree to what you think and that's fine. If I had to pick one, i would lead more towards relativism.

I think that we should rely mostly on universalism, obviously we cannot expect every culture to view everything and act the same; however, no one should go without rights due to trivial things like their gender, race, sexual identity, ability, etc. While we cannot force all cultures to be the same, we should also expect all humans to be treated as such, humans.

We should let people have their own cultures, but if that culture includes unfounded hate and oppression then it is not a good culture.

I can personally understand both sides. I think it just mostly depends on what some of the practices some cultures practice and if all the participants of the practice consent to said practice. While some universalists may think a certain practice is "weird" or wrong, it may not seem harmful to the people of that culture. Some practices may be extremely sacred to the cultures and having that practice deemed "wrong" from people who are not even part of their culture and don't understand it doesn't seem right in my opinion. But on the other hand, some practices can be very harmful, such as child marriages; a very large portion of people tend to find that practice "disturbing" and "unethical" and many people tend to agree and put in laws to prevent child marriages to take place.

Not everyone will agree with that cultures beliefs but if that person agrees with that culture and their norms they have every right to THAT culture. Now if we had one group and one set of rules not everyone would agree so it’s better to be apart of the cultures beliefs that you believe. Especially when it comes to ones religion they all have their own beliefs. Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs and have the right to choose the culture they want to be included in. However this shouldn’t affect ones thoughts on that culture because that one’s culture is theirs and not everyone will agree with each other.

Both sides sound very reasonable, but it depends. Hearing that people are sacrificing others blew my mind. It's the 21st century come on. Universal is way too different but the same at times. Think of the death penalty. We take people's lives who have done so much wrong in the world. think, "oh we can just choose an innocent or bad person to be sacrificed to make god proud of us". But no that is very wrong. This world should be more Relative just because people are being sacrificed to please someone we don't know happy. The death penalty is the best way to go because we are getting rid of people who cause society to go into the ground.

I think we should be more culturally relative. I understand the argument that some things are not seen as morally acceptable. In truth how is one supposed to tell someone something is right or wrong, it coherently belongs to the eyes of the beholder. Yes some things suck for other people but that's just how they decided to govern things. The argument is also how some people see things as normal and others not.

I believe that we should be more relativist as a society. I believe it's almost impossible to make everyone conform to a set of standard morals or way of thinking. I also believe that every culture does things its own way and that's how they've always lived, so who are we or anyone to tell them that their way of life is immoral or wrong when they probably think the same thing about us or different cultures. Although other cultures may find a different cultures way of life or traditions as morally wrong, i believe if new laws or change is to happen it should come of the people of the very culture that they are trying to change. It really is nobody else's business in my opinion.

In the sense that you should be able to follow your own culture and beliefs as well as not forcing them upon anyone when it comes to everyday basic human rights.

I believe that both aspects of universalism and relativism are good. Both sides have their pros and cons but it's not to the point where you can easily rule out one as being 'better' than the other. If I had to choose one, then I would choose relativism. We all have to realize that not everyone is the same, yes we all bleed the same and we all deserve to be equally treated the same but our religions, practices, etc will not always be the same compared to our peers. I feel like nowadays people become ignorant or insensitive when they see someone or something that is different to what they're used to. I don't believe that ethical morals should be the stopping point when it comes to different cultures since I believe that ethical morals are a universal thing and not just up for debate in different cultures.

I think overall that we should find a balance between universalism and relativism, but if I had to choose I would chose to be a little more relativist. The reasons are because if we chose to be more universalist cultures would fade away and in extreme situations it would forcibly detached from their traditions, roots and beliefs that come along them. Also, not to count that no system of beliefs on Earth is "morally right" for the rest of the world to be followed and it would be extremely dangerous and difficult to find a system to follow, because many based on their beliefs will not agree to each other and will do anything to not let their culture die. Also not to mention that complete universalism is impossible. I think that every one should be able to practice their culture and be themselves, because diversity is very beautiful itself.

I feel like we should be kind of in the middle. I can see how people would want everyone to have the same views and beliefs so everyone learns to get along but, some of the traditions cultures have have been going on longer than most people have been alive. The rituals and sacrifices some cultures performs I agree shouldn't be happening because its just wrong but, I believe we should still respect separate cultures and beliefs including race, gender, etc. If everyone had the same opinions and beliefs nobody would be able to learn abou new cultural beliefs. I agreed with the artical when it says "every judgement about right and wrong is a product of society." I agree with this because depending on what you grow up sround and what you belive is what you are gonna comepare to being "right of wrong." I think I lean more towards relativism just because I feel like cultures should be able to have beliefs that are their own and be able to teach other cultures.

I would say universalist because it wouldn't matter because most people are universalist in a way they don't see themselves universalist when they point out things that people do that may seem racist in a way saying hey that's kind of racist if you're wearing that outfit from another culture but when you ask those who practice that culture, they would say it was meant to be shared around and all. To sum it up, I'm saying people tend to judge culture no matter what to the point that this and that was never meant to be shared or anyone cannot practices it and only meant for those people only but in reality it was meant to be shared regardless of race or gender but that was off topic. It's rather that there are some cultures that seem unfit to modern society that may bound you down you, harm your life, restrictive, and so on. In a way, this helps you learn more about culture itself and other cultures people have in which people can accept or don't accept it.

Both sides have a point and I think when viewing the world as a whole we can't exclude one or the other. I think there are things that just as a whole we have to say are bad and should stop them. Excluding groups of people, denying rights and killing because it fits your culture are bad. But when viewing cultures down to the small things like what's considered food or a companion that's when stuff gets muddy. People just have different views on everything and saying we have to be either relativist or universalist is constricting ourselves too much. I think, if i had to choose one, we should be more universalist as to hurt the least people as possible.
