One object that represents me as a teenager today is my cell phone. It’s not just a tool, it’s how I stay connected with my friends, my family, and the world. I use it for communication, for school, and to relax when I watch videos or listen to music. In a time like the Cultural Revolution, my phone would probably be taken away or destroyed because it represents freedom, technology, and access to information, things that could be seen as dangerous. If I lost it, I would feel completely disconnected, limited, and silenced.

2. AirPods

Headphones or AirPods are something I use every day. They help me focus, escape, and enjoy music that I love. Music is really important to me, it helps me express my emotions and feel understood. If I lived during a political revolution like Ji-li in Red Scarf Girl, my headphones and the music I listen to could be seen as selfish or even rebellious. If someone took them away, I would lose a part of myself. I wouldn’t have that safe space where I feel free and calm.

In today’s world, fashion gives me confidence and makes me feel unique. But in Jili’s time, that kind of self expression could be considered wrong or even dangerous. If I had to wear the same thing as everyone else, I would feel like I’m losing my voice. My clothes are not just fabric they represent my identity.
