I made a promise to myself today. I will listen to the birdsong, not the notifications. I will collect stories from the streets, not from screens. I will get lost for a bit. Maybe there, under that forgotten sky, I will find myself again. hAYRUNNİSA

Life is a race. Social media is like being constantly in the spotlight. But people should take breaks. Just like those short breaks we take when the bell rings at school.

I'm taking a short break now. Instead of sharing stories, I choose to live. Because the best moments are the unfiltered ones.

It was a regular morning in Zamość, Poland. Students at Szkoła Podstawowa nr 2 w Zamościu arrived at school with excitement. Today, their teacher, Mr. Witold, had planned a special activity: a story-writing session about “A Day on Social Media.”
This was part of their eTwinning project, The Impact of Social Media on Students.

Mr. Witold wrote a question on the board:
“How does social media affect our lives?”

🧑‍💻 Julia’s Story

Julia woke up and immediately grabbed her phone. Before even having breakfast, she checked Instagram, TikTok, and Snapchat. She looked at her friends’ posts and began to compare herself with them.
"Why don’t I have such a perfect life?" she wondered.

Even during lessons, Julia couldn't concentrate. Her mind kept drifting back to social media, waiting for the next notification. She ended up scoring lower than usual on her math quiz.

After school, she spent hours scrolling through her phone again. But this time, she felt empty inside.
"I’ve spent so much time online… but what have I really gained?" she asked herself.

🤝 A Small Change

The next day, Mr. Witold gave the class a challenge:
"Go one full day without using any social media. Then write about how you felt."

At first, Julia didn’t like the idea, but she decided to try. That day, she read a book, went for a walk, talked to her parents, and called a friend for a real conversation.

When the day ended, she felt calm and peaceful.

The next morning, the students shared their experiences. Julia stood up and said:
“Social media is fun, but if we use it too much, it can make us unhappy. I’ve decided to be more careful and use it in moderation.”

Mr. Witold smiled and said:

“Social media is a tool. It’s up to us how we use it.”

📘 Conclusion

Thanks to this activity, students realized that while social media can be entertaining, it can also affect their emotions and attention if not used wisely.

The experience at Szkoła Podstawowa nr 2 w Zamościu became an inspiring part of their eTwinning project, encouraging students from other schools to reflect on their own social media habits.
