The British leaders knew from the stamp act that the colonists were against having to pay internal taxes, so they added taxes to imported goods like glass, tea, and paper. At this point colonists were against any taxes that they were very angry about being taxed. The colonists believed that they should only be taxed by their representatives. So the colonists decided to boycott. Women formed groups called the daughters of liberty. The daughters of liberty urged colonists to make their own fabrics and materials. They also urgered Americans to use their own goods instead of the goods from the British that were imported.

The writs of assistance gave officers the ability to search colonist for items if the officers or othersthought that the colonist was smuggling. For the officer to be able to search a colonist they needed to have a search warrant. The search warrant didn't need to be specific. What the item was didn't need to have a detailed description or a very detailed location. Around the 1770 lots of officers began to stop using the writs of assistance because they were afraid of what the colonist would do. This is because of the rising boycotts and rallies.

The British made another attempt to make back the money that was lost during the war. They decided to put tax on imported goods. In other words, they put tax on goods that came from another country, instead of goods that were made in the colonies. The government predicted the colonists wouldn't mind. But, they predicted wrong. Most colonists boycotted the goods and started to make their own materials locally. In addition to this, smuggling from other countries started to become a problem for the British government. This is what lead to the Writs of Assistance.
