Students listen to short clips of songs from around the world and try to identify the language being sung.

Play 20–30 seconds of a song in a foreign language, without revealing the title or artist. Students listen carefully to the sounds, rhythms, and patterns of the language, then write down or call out their guess. Reveal the answer, share where the language is spoken, and play a bit more of the song before moving on to the next clip.

Aim for a varied mix, include some widely spoken languages alongside less familiar ones to keep all levels engaged. Include languages spoken by students in your class.

Children read the book ‘Silly Billy’ by Anthony Brown. Make worry dolls, all you need is pipe cleaner and yarn. See the attached video. When I taught Spanish it was always a big hit with my students!

This is a fun whole school initiative in which classes/groups of students work together to decode language riddles and/or challenges. As they complete a riddle/challenge they are given the next clue, often hidden in a part of the school, until they complete - THE QUEST.

We have a Quest celebration at the end of language week and all who participated are welcome. We ask that students bring a snack to share.
