I was born on January 19, 1809. I never really knew my parents, I was an orphan. My father left shortly after I was born, and my mother died of tuberculosis. I had a brother and sister, but I never knew what happened to them. I never got officially adopted, but I was taken in by a family by the name of John and Francis Allen. I had a connection with my mother, but I had difficulties with my father. As a young teen I was a terrific poet, but was turned down by my father and others. They wanted me to take over the family business. Over the years I have been to and dropped (one time kicked out) out of various schools, and later pursued writing. After being kicked out of West point (Military Academy) I published my third book, and made the life long decision to take on writing full time. Later when my father died, I had no place in the will and had barely any money coming in. That is until one of my stories won a contest. I started to write more short novels, and I got a job as an editor. I was a very harsh critic. For different reasons, I was set free from my editorial job and continued on. I sold my work to Alexanders Weekly Messenger (I was his arch nemesis) and continued to write short stories. You may have heard of some, "Tell Tale Heart" and others like "The Raven". Yes, I know I have made masterpieces. I died on October 7, 1849. How? That remains a mystery.

The Raven is one of my famous poems. For me it symbolizes mournful and never-ending remembrance. My poem is often noted for its musicality, stylized language, and supernatural atmosphere. It's about a talking raven's mysterious visit to a distressed lover, who is heartbroken over his beloved Lenore's recent death, tracing his slow descent into madness.

Annabel Lee is the last complete poem that I made. Like many of my other poems, the death of a beautiful woman is present. It is about me, the narrator, who fell in love with a beautiful woman called Annabel Lee, who symbolizes my dead wife, Virginia Poe. I had such a strong love for her that even angels were envious, who at the end were jealous to the point of killing her.

A Dream Within a Dream questions the nature of reality and questions if life is just an illusion. It explores both the significance and reality of life. Things that are important are taken away and there is a struggle to hold on to them. No matter how hard one tries to hold on, there will always be a lack of control, and the question if life is really just a dream within a dream.

This is one of my famous poems, The Tell Tale Heart. It is about one man who despises the old man's eye. Until he can't stand it anymore. He waits in the closet for seven nights until he finally commits the murder. He carefully places each piece under the floorboards so none will ever notice. Less than a second later, the police came knocking on the door because of a report from the neighbor. He acts calmly and greets the police inside. Soon, the man starts to hear the beating of the old man's heart. Louder and louder. Until he can't take it anymore! He soon confesses to the police.
