The shell symbolises my immediate surrounding of living on the coast with beautiful beaches.

The twindup skelly, is a toy I was given during the HSC exams by my father for comfort. 

Jerry Uelsman, Photographer/Artist influenced my vision by his works of digital composition and sandwiched photography of surreal images combined as one. His photography of multiple environments and objects to make a consistent emerged image are what I hope to achieve.

An introduction of XD and what to consider for our major work for the Light ad Darkk topic by considering materiality and concepts such as “balance”, “time” and “reaction”. 

 The limitless view of art being anything has its charm. Talking about art is so philosophical and subjective to everyone. 

 A light wind chime made with the previous found objects and cellophane . The final piece was great for conveying light. In the early beginnings I bought cellophane to try experimenting further with light and transparent materials but didn't become part of the final work. Although it started my exploration of transparent materials (e.g x rays)

A seminar of making “scores'' with found objects then group-project sculptures. My Group with Aleena made a light wind chime made with the previous found objects and cellophane

 Learning the turntable wheel, where my first pot accidentally collapsed on itself and became a plate. I had to restart I made two pots/trays both very imperfect. It was a lot of fun and I need a lot more practice.

Film still of the beginning onwards, Lucy and I are performing an connection of people through expressions of the body and paper. An bond between both parties, synchronised circles. Then sabotaging each others place to showcase this disconnection and moving on with part of each other. 

I wanted to improve my skills at throwing so I made two more pots/vase and decided go for a messy marbling rainbow effect with the glazing

2. What do they remind you of? (What are they or have they been used for?)

It reminds me of close examinations of bodily functions and substances (cameras going down ear canal or nose. It is made to made a connected sculpture of an intimate home/nest. The materiality of saliva being a blinding agent, a warm substance that can be transferred and produced.

3. How are the materials presented? How does it make you feel? how does this contribute to the meaning? The materiality of saliva being a blinding agent, a warm substance that can be transferred and produced. This feel a sense of biological connection and is slightly disgusting but it’s nothing of the abnormal.

4. Do you like this work? Why or why not?

I like the direction of this work how it connects the body and its resources to be an intimate sculpture of home and comfort.

Early beginnings - Started carving wax rings and decided to do a jaws design. continuing the theme of the body. 

We had obstructions we had to follow mine were to use “no clothing and to make death out of life”. The outcome was very beneficial as it has became one of my reconstructions. The first one with two people in a cuddling display. On the Thursday I experimented again with clothing and censorship. Fellow classmates stood behind it which made this cool effect

My concept was refined many times from simple beginnings to a critically developed concept. From humble beginnings of mortality to exploitation, pervertised gaze, and sexualisation. 

Utilizing natural light and paneled glass was part presentational process that was further experimented with, for instance embracing the environment of the Old School Building. The tinted pink windows of the Tech Workshops allowed my x-rays constructions to have visual depth. The pink undertones gave the piece a fleshy living look instead of the cold blue, white windows. 

The use of glass can be interpreted in two ways. Glass as a transparent material allows light to be emitted through and can allow two way perception. It’s a material that also can be used as “viewing” whether it's a shop window advertising something or a window to see.

The additional use of black tape and clothing will act as a censorship of what you can and can't see. I aim to evoke uneasiness of whether you should be there, “a perverted viewing” of people. The bodies are erotically displayed, an example of “beyond nudity”. The question, whether it’s right? For the audience to be viewing this piece. An invasion of privacy and imagining of what should be there. The consumption of sexual media and the depictions of real people’s anatomy. Transparent to the audience to view.

Material disciplines : Photography media (x-rays), sculpture, performative (audience walking behind) Site-specific.

Light and Dark : Natural light, darkness from shadows of x-rays. Conceptual dark of grim display of bodies and shedding light of using personal objects/clothing. 

My feedback was positive with a Green Light result. Tanya was holding the presentations. 

The critiques were constructive with my original display of my x rays on the windows. Embracing windows, the environment of the Old Teachers Building was an natural consideration. The pink panel doors of the Jewellery tech rooms was where I decided to showcase for week 6 part B. The engagement with the class was limited with no verbal feedback however interested many. With the considerations of the environment I contacted the tutor of jewellery to organise using that space as a place to present for week 6. From there I experimented with the coloured windows and natural lighting as well as places such as the blue photography lab doors. Discovered which worked best and started constructing the bodies in and out of class.

Final work

An article about the pornography industry and the consumption/implications of explicit material. The history of American sexual culture. Mentions of “playboy” becoming an norm in society post WWII, with it being “the pursuit of individual freedom”. The commodification of sexuality and material become an empowering moment for women. “Gendered structures of power within the American workplace, politics, or legal system, and interprets an individual woman's celebration of her sexuality as a victory for feminism” explaining how social structures shifted. As well as the concerns of sexual violence increasing cause of porn and the “ censorship … with mainstream feminists, who "opposed violence, not sex" and understood that advocacy for any kind of censorship inevitably meant "that gay, lesbian, feminist, and other forms of progressive expression would be squelched along with individual freedoms" 

This research helped strengthen additional concepts with the history of commodification and consumerism of explict  media.
