---Before LBJ was elected he was saying how he thought that the Americans did not need to be involved in the Vietnam war and that South Vietnam needs to fight the North on their own.

"I am not going to lose Vietnam. I am not going to be the president who saw Southeast go the way China went." LBJ 1963
---Now that LBJ is president, he is all cocky and arrogant about winning the war against Vietnam and is continuing to send people to Vietnam which he said he wouldn't do when he was running for president.

---People were starting to get really upset with LBJ because he was saying one thing when he was running for president, about not sending people to Vietnam, and then he was doing the complete opposite when he was elected president by saying how he refused to lose the war.

Morse describes the war as a mistake. He believes that in the future Americans are going to look down on the Vietnam war and realize it should've never happened. 

"For it seems now more certain than ever that the bloody experience of Vietnam is to end in a stalemate. To say that we are closer to victory today is to believe in the face of evidence, the optimists who have been wrong in the past."-Walter Cronkite 
Cronkite describes the war as a "stalemate" now. Americans aren't moving forward in the war, they're not succeeding. He says to believe that they're close to winning shows that just like people in the past the positive attitude is foolish and they will be proved wrong.

"I think we have all underestimated the seriousness of this situation. Like giving cobalt treatment to a terminal cancer case. I think a long protracted war will disclose our weakness, not our strength." Deputy Secretary of State George HW. Bush 
Bush is saying that continuing the war will show the weakness of America. We won't be the ones that win and our ignorance has blinded us from how difficult this war will really be. There's no point in continuing to fight because it's inevitable that we will be defeated.

 ---Kennedy believes that the war is very important to America. If Americans take control of Vietnam they would have a lot of power to store in country that is not near the U.S. Which he believes would solve their problem, to control more power, to take over many other countries.

---Arnett and McGovern are  willing to scarifies many American soldiers to take over Vietnam and save the Vietnamese people form the south. These quotes shows how Arnett, LBJ, and McGovern have similar perspectives about the war. They all are willing to scarifies as many soldiers as they can to take over Vietnam which they knew was stronger than them. They all don't want to lose no matter what happens to their soldiers.

"The commitment of five hundred thousand Americans has settled the issue of the importance of Vietnam. For what is involved now is confidence on American Promises." Henry Kissinger 1969
---Before many of American soldiers were sacrificed, Kissinger was against the war. Soon after he realized that five hundred thousand American soldiers had died, he felt eager to win the war no matter what, because of how many soldiers had died. But this is stupid because they had already lost a lot of American soldiers, so they have a greater chance of losing due to the fact that they had lost thousands of soldiers and he is willing to sacrifice more in hope of defeating the Vietnamese soldiers, taking over Vietnam, and winning the war.
