Childhood: Adolf Hitler was born on 20 April 1889, in a town in Austria-Hungary close to the border with the German Empire. He was christened as “Adolphus Hitler.” Hitler was the fourth out of 6 children. 3 of his siblings name are, Paula Hitler, Ida Hitler and Angela Hitler. Hitlers father was called Alois Hitler and his mother was called Klara Hitler. Adulthood: As an adult, Hitler wanted people who had blue eyes and blonde hair to live and he attempted to murder any others. He sent out people with brown eyes, hair etc to concentration camps to murder them all. Hitler increased to a place of prominence in the early years of the party. Hitler loved blond hair and blue eyed people because German people tend to have blond hair and blue eyes. Also the ancient Germans were all or mostly blonde hair and blue eyed.

There were three major types of planes used in World War II including fighters, bombers and transport planes. Fighter planes are designed for air-to-air combat. They are fast and agile. During World War II fighter planes were used to gain air superiority over a battlefield. The Supermarine Spitfire that was the champion British warplane and undoubtedly the most famous WWII aircraft originating from that country. Developed prior to the war, Spitfires in general are regarded as one of the best fighter aircraft ever. The German Dornier Do 335 “Pfeil” is the fastest of the war. The fastest propeller driven US aircraft of the war that saw service in combat was the P-47M Thunderbolt. The first major attacks in World War II were made by German aircraft in the takeover of countries such as Denmark, Poland, and the Netherlands. Later, Germany would attempt to destroy England's Royal Air Force in the Battle of Britain. During this battle, German planes dropped thousands of bombs on England for over three months straight. The Allies later countered with a major air attack on D-Day during the Invasion of Normandy. They launched around 14,000 sorties (airplane attacks) in one day.

By Lucas and Caelan

By Jacob O and Logan!
A gas mask is a mask to protect the wearer from inhaling airborne pollutants and toxic gasses. Gas player a major role in the First World War, meaning that in 1939 a lot of men carried the horrible memories of a gas attack. Some were blinded by gas, while countless more suffered breathing difficulties throughout the rest of their lives. The terror of gas hung heavy on the public’s consciousness, and with the advent of medium bomber bringing civilian population centres into the line of fire, the government considered the threat of gas to civilian populations to be severe. Bombings of urban centres from the air during the Spanish Civil War - such as the bombing of Guernica, immortalised in paint by Pablo Picasso - showed the dangers that bombers could present to civilians. Coupled with the release of chemical agents, life in Britain could be severely disrupted.

Gas masks were issued to all British civilians at the start of World War Two. There was a very real fear in Britain that Nazi German bombers would drop poison gas bombs. Therefore, all civilians were issued with gas masks. ... At the start of the war some citizens had not been issued with a gas mask. Basically the situation is that the vast majority of WW2 gas masks contain asbestos in the filter, quite often blue asbestos, a category one carcinogen. ... A spokesman for The Health Protection Agency advises people not to wear WW2 gas masks because they may contain asbestos that can cause respiratory diseases. The N95 is a type of respirator mask. Gas mask. A gas mask is a type of respirator, but it contains filtration media that stop not only particles but also different gases. The user's own breathing is used to draw air through the filter media.

Child’s opinion on gas masks.

Gas masks were neither easy nor comfortable to wear. The gas-like odour of rubber and disinfectant made many people feel sick. One child wrote: "Although I could breathe in it. I felt as if I couldn't. It didn't seem possible that enough air was coming through the filter. The covering over my face, the cloudy Perspex in front of my eyes, and the overpowering smell of rubber, made me feel slightly panicky, though I still laughed each time I breathed out, and the edges of the mask blew a gentle raspberry against my cheeks. The moment you put it on, the window misted up, blinding you. Our mums were told to rub soap on the inside of the window, to prevent this. It made it harder to see than ever, and you got soap in your eyes. There was a rubber washer under your chin, that flipped up and hit you, every time you breathed in... The bottom of the mask soon filled up with spit, and your face got so hot and sweaty you could have screamed.

By Lucas and Caelan

The United Kingdom took in nearly 10,000 predominantly Jewish children from Nazi,Germany,Nazi-occupied Austria,Czechoslovakia and Poland, and the free city of Danzig. The children were placed in British foster homes, hostels, school and farms. Often they were the only members of their families who survived the holocaust. The kinder transport mission unfolded between November 1938 and September 1939, when world war 2 broke out.At the time, the Nazis were in power in Germany - and they were making life unbearable for Jewish people. laws had been made which discriminated against them and many people were being murdered.

After a sensational rise to prominence in national politics before World war 1, Churchill acquired a reputation for erratic judgment in the war itself and in the decade that followed.

World War II officially started on September 1, 1939, and it was the first time that planes were predominantly used for warfare. Air forces from all major participants used planes that were unique to their culture and their advancements in science. It was one of the most innovative times in the history of aviation and modern society is still reaping the benefits of those advancements. These are 10 interesting facts about World War II planes and the people who flew them. After D-Day in June 1944, British forces kept pushing inland in Normandy. After several long days of doing this, many soldiers, understandably, really just wanted to have a beer.Back in England, the Henty and Constable Brewery heard about the men’s wishes and offered them free beer. Volunteers with the Royal Air Force had old fuel tanks steam-cleaned and filled with beer. They then flew them to the men in Normandy. Even though the beer had a funny taste because they were in stored in used fuel tanks, the men were happy to have it.

The British government believed that some form of poison gas would be used on the civilian population during the war. The government issued a warning on 3rd September, 1939, that people must go to their nearest air raid shelter during bombing attacks: "If poison gas has been used, you will be warned by means of hand rattles. If you hear hand rattles do not leave your shelter until the poison gas has been cleared away. Hand bells will tell you when there is no longer any danger from poison gas.

It was therefore decided to issue a gas masks to everyone living in Britain. Over 38 million gas masks were distributed to regional centres. Gas masks contained chrysotile (white asbestos) or crocidolite (blue asbestos) in their filters. While the masks were effective in terms of being able to filter out poisonous gases like mustard gas, phosgene or chlorine gas, the filters were in fact very dangerous to humans as it was later discovered that exposure to asbestos could causes asbestosis, pleuritis, and lung cancer, as well as a number of other lethal and incurable diseases. The gas masks were produced by a company in Blackburn and after the war factory workers making the masks started showing abnormally high numbers of deaths from cancer. Tests showed that asbestos fibres can also be inhaled by wearing the masks. However, it was at late as May 2014 that the Health and Safety Executive issued a warning to schools that they should not let children touch or try on gas masks as they contained asbestos. Adult gas masks were black whereas children had 'Micky Mouse' masks with red rubber pieces and bright eye piece rims. There were also gas helmets for babies into which mothers would have to pump air with a bellows. People carried their gas masks in cardboard cases for many months. (4) Neville Chamberlain went on to radio to explain the measures the government was taking: "How horrible, fantastic, incredible, it is that we should be digging trenches and trying on gas masks here because of a quarrel in a far away country between people of whom we know nothing. ved in Bristol: "Elsie remarked that she had spoken to Mr. Fry, the local Councillor and her next-door neighbour, and he had told her in confidence that the first consignment of gas masks due to be delivered the following week would be far from adequate and it was a question of distribution. Whoever got there first would be lucky. Elsie was right about the gas masks, and several weeks later there was a mad panic for these frightful looking things at local school rooms.

He was a very skilled pilot, especially when he was flying a Zero. Even when he was facing more advanced planes from the American Navy, Nishizawa was thought to be invincible when he was piloting. He was considered Japan’s top ace pilot, but how many planes he shot down is a bit unclear. The Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service recorded their kills for a unit and not individual pilots. Nishizawa claimed he shot down 102 planes, but it was probably closer to 36.On October 25, 1944, Nishizawa had a premonition that his death was imminent, so he begged to be allowed to go on a kamikaze mission. His commander wouldn’t let him because he was such talented a pilotThe next day, Nishizawa boarded a bomber in Mabalacat, which is in the Philippines. He was a passenger heading to the island of Luzon to pick up some replacement planes. En route, the bomber was attacked by two American Hellcats. The plane went down with Nishizawa, Japan’s Ace of Aces, sitting helplessly as a passenger

Germany and the Soviet Union built the best tanks of World War II.

During World War ll (1939-45) Japan attacked nearly all of it’s Asian neighbors, allied itself within Nazi Germany and launched a surprise assault on the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor . After Japan’s surrender in 1945, he became a figurehead with no political power.DescriptionThe attack on Pearl Harbor was a surprise preemptive military strike by the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service upon the United States against the naval base at Pearl Harbor in Honolulu, Hawaii on Sunday morning, December 7, 1941. The attack led to the United States' formal entry into World War II the next day.Radioman Karl buzz Boyer could not believe what he was hearing. As he sat in front of his receiver at the naval radio station 6 miles away from pearl harbour in Hawaii on the morning Sunday, December 7 1941, he transcribed a starting message from the marine air base 20 miles to the north east. Why Attack Pearl Harbor? As war was inevitable, Japan's only chance was the element of surprise and to destroy America's navy as quickly as possible. Japan wanted to move into the Dutch East Indies and Malaya to conquer territories that could provide important natural resources such as oil and rubber.

Gas masks were issued to all British civilians at the start of World War II. There was a very real fear in Britain that Nazi German bombers would drop poison gas bombs. Therefore, all civilians were issued with gas masks. People in Britain were expecting to be bombed by the German Air Force. They thought that thousands of people would be killed or injured. Hospitals were emptied so that there would be room for the wounded. Millions of carbord coffiends were made. The government thought that German bombs might contain poison gas. Everyone was given a gas mask to protect them from this poison. Lereah Tia Rhys

Pigeons could possibly fly back to the RAF airfield with a message that told rescuers of the planes position. One pigeon, nicknamed Winkie, was with the crew of a Beaufort bomber when the plane when down in the sea off the coast of Scotland. Her wings were oily from her dip in the sea but she escaped from her cage and flew 129 miles to the plane’s base. She had no message but rescuers were able to work out the plane’s position and save the crew from freezing to death.
Rickey, one of the bravest mine dogs was a Welsh sheepdog called Ricky.
