Duolingo

Duolingo was updated. There are some new featrues that I really love. Unfortunately, I also lost most of my progress as a result, which made me lose my motivation to play duolingo for a while. But, the new feature makes up for my loss.
The feature is called 'bots'. With it I can practise my conversations skills in German by "talking" with a robot.
I am either asked to type a certain phrase or react in a way that I find appropriate. It is very motivating to see that I have used a right phrase.

Not only Duolingo, but also quizlet was updated. I enjoy quizlet's new app a lot! It used to be awkward to use and therefore, I used to learn German with quizlet on my laptop. Now that the app works so well and has new features that make it even more fun, I can actually learn German almost where ever I am.
Unlike in duolingo, in quizlet I make my own set of words or phrases I want to learn, so I have used it to learn the vocabulary of the chapters.
The best part of Quizlet is the fact that it is versatile. I can learn the words in various ways, like flashcards and taking a mock test.
This semester, the vocabulary is more advanced, but the amount of new words still is not overwhelming.

Last semseter I really liked this YouTube channel that posts listening exercises. I wanted to do some listening exercises again. I feel like I hear German fairly often because of my German flat mate and the fact that I listen to German music. Still, I wanted to practise my listening comprehension skills in another way, too. Afterall, listening to music and really focusing to understand what someone is saying are very different things.
I did quite a few including "at the restaurant" and "looking at a photograph". These videos are short enough to be even addictive.

For last semester I learnt new words with twitter. I changed things a bit and started following a German account on instagram. Even though it is not as efficient way of learning, as quizlet or duolingo, I still see new German words every time I open social media, which is a good way of making sure that I keep seeing German also in other places than only the textbook.

Grammar exercises

I definitely think that grammar has gotten more difficult this semester. That said, I have tried a few things to learn everything.
I mostly study grammar by reading the text book's summary and making my own notes.
I do the exercises and then try to come up with my own examples to remember the new structures.
I feel like even now it has been relatively easy to grasp the main points. Still, at this point there are quite many things to remember.
I have noticed, that reading and thinking of examples is the fastest way for me to learn grammar.
There is an upside to more advanced grammar: it is also more motivating to learn the language, because I feel like I can express myself better in German. I still have a long way to go as a learner, and I have only just started to learn German, so I have so many things to learn, but I am excited to improve!
