         <description><![CDATA[<p>The Compromise of 1850 occurred after the Mexican-American war. It was a five part compromise that allowed California to become a free state. This Compromise implemented a stricter fugitive slave act. It also allowed the right to settler's opinions to decide on slavery</p>]]></description>

         <title>The Freedmen&#39;s Bureau (1865–1872)

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Congress established this to help former enslaved African Americans and poor whites in the South. It provided food, housing, medical aid, and created schools. The bureau  helped negotiate labor contracts and worked to resettle freedpeople on stolen property. The Freedmen's Bureau was officially abolished in 1872.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>This plan was referred to an "inner circle". It was organized in 1867 by Nathan Bedford Forrest. This plan represented the ghosts of dead confederate soldiers. It disrupted reconstruction and apposed republicans, carpetbaggers, scalawags, and freedmen. The KKK planted burning crosses and tortured/kidnapped/murdered their victims.</p>]]></description>

Haynes in exchange for withdrawal of federal troops from the South. This ended reconstruction. The southern black population was allowed mercy of segregated state governments.</p>]]></description>
