Atrial Fibrillation (AF) is a cardiovascular condition that results in an irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia), and which is caused by the upper chambers of the heart failing to move blood into its lower ventricles properly. This irregular heart function can promote other serious health problems including stroke, blood clots, and heart failure. For example, approximately 15 to 20 percent of people who suffer a stroke have AF, and if the condition goes untreated it doubles the chance of death due to heart-related causes.
