I'm very indecisive so when I actually had this vision to create a howls moving castle mug I was like "YES". i absolutely love the movie and every-time i rewatch it, i notice something new and It feels like ive connected the dots. everything about the movie is so beautiful from the animation, to the story and childhood of howl (one of the protagonist's) , its so beautiful. its calming. especially the soundtrack.

1) well the timelapse didnt fit uhh but i did send it as my makeup.
2) basically in the video i was creating the pasty-paste (the clay paste) and i kept doing that until i got the texture of whipped cream(caution dont eat,not that tasty) and once the desried texture was acheived I began to cut a slab of clay approximately the size of two hands or a head.
3)I sprayed the clay with water, need to make sure its elastic.

4) and here i present to you the oddly shaped slab of clay that actually worked. I think im really good at making my mistakes work.

1) i'm not quite sure why i did this shape, it was just easier to picture putting a mug together. I did have a template originally but i didnt like how the clay or piece of paper looked. it just didn't feel right. something was off and didnt want to continue wasting my time on trying to fix it, when it didnt even need to be fixed.
2)i rolled the slab until it was to my desired width of half an inch. perfect and good enough to ensure that nothing tears or breaks. that was my biggest worry because i tend to forget to water the clay after it has sit our for a while.
3)Once i had the slab rolled out i used the board (the orange one) to make straight lines. couldnt even make straight lines.
4)once i had the "ideal" shape i rolled it into a cylinder shape.
5)once the cylinder shape was the most beautiful thing i saw in the world, then i created the base. I used the leftover scrap pieces of clay. rolled that into half an inch as well and used the top of a hand sanitizer wipe container (make sure to continue wearing masks even after they say you aren't required to, how is a literal piece of cloth so controversial i guess people dont understand human decency)ok thats besides the point. anyways once i had the base rolled out, i made sure to use the paste to score and slip the two pieces into once extravagant piece of art!!!

1) just look at how pretty she is. admire it, take it all in. she is unique, a bit wonky but beautiful.
2)well in the couple of images that will continue i didn't really document my process bc i kind of got into the process of fixing the shape. like the process was so calming like reading a book while listening to music.
3) ok so the way i was able to create that almost round shape of the castle was by using my fists. i had so much fun doing this. i mean it was stressful to be honest but with everything going in my life, it was the most less stressful moments i had. i made sure to make all the edges of my project smooth and the same width around it. once i had it the same, or close enough, i pushed the edges of the clay from the inside to form a sort of round surface. This took me about an hour to perfect and once i had the desired shape i used my junior id to smooth the outside edges of it. i made sure the mug resembled the shape of the castle.
4)ok next i worked on the "face" of the castle. so the eyes are a house and a random piece of screw, well i saw it as a type of screw. then the nose is suppose to be like a treehouse type of nose. and the mouth, i wanted to create the illusion of the mouth being teared up so i actually rolled up many strings of clay and cut them in random shapes. then i created a tongue... continuation on next slide :)

ok so the continuation from the previous one.
5) the tongue was formed by using the scraps of clay i had. i had it dry a bit the day before because i wanted it to hold the curvy shape. I did this by rolling a piece of clay and putting it under and then letting it dry.
6)I started created little details around the eyes so i made nostrils little windows.

1) the details happened with this. as you can tell it all kind of depended how my brain wanted to create the patterns. originally i was ripping pieces of clay then sticking them to the clay to create textures however that just didnt work in my favor. it wasn't creating the desired look i wanted but i continued to keep using it. the next couple of slides i also skip a lot of steps.
2) to describe the many steps to create what you'll see in the next slide lets begin with the side extra non-handle item. so i actually began to roll a piece of clay and i wanted to make the side where it was going to stick flat. so once i rolled them i started to work on the tiny details that would be on it. so i rolled even more tiny pieces of clay. these pieces are what made most of my details. i attached them to the piece. i made like screws on the edges, little dots, lines and above that i made like a balcony. the balcony was made to be into perfect. i think thats the beauty of howls moving castle. it haas so many things going on that just seem to work together perfectly that even the tiny imperfect things are perfect in the views of who watches the film. its magical and all the imperfections make the castle so much more important. so yes i like all the imperfections of this. they are intentional, they are suppose to be there.
3) i gave it texture during this time and although at first i regretted it it actually helped me later on because i was able to shave of the lines later on more better without having to worry if i would make it worse.
