The guillotine was the most efficient, and most painless form of execution during the French Revolution. It was a large, wooden structure with a slanted, 150-pound blade resting at the top and a terrifying sight indeed. This instrument was used very frequently and was likely the face of the revolution, ironically, it's job was to cut off the heads of the accused.

Maximilien Robespierre was the "Voice of the People" during the Reign of Terror in France. He was the one who riled all the citizens up and used the guillotine as his instrument of justice. The power he had went to his head, causing France to go on a massive killing spree, immediately killing whoever they deemed against the revolution or a criminal through Robespierre's guidelines on how to be a model citizen. Eventually he went against his own words, which caused the people of France to call for his head, and eventually behead him with his preferred form of execution, the guillotine.

A political faction within France during the French Revolution who were very active in the National Convention and the Legislative Assembly. Their biggest goal was to keep King Louis XVI alive because they saw him as a father. They rivaled The Mountains who wanted to execute the king, and they were probably the only reason he wasn't executed sooner.
