Remake of Alexander Pechersky by Shayon Roy

Alexander Pechersky was drafted into the soviet army. He got captured by German forces and was imprisoned. He would escape that camp but soon be caught again. It was revealed that he was Jewish and moved to death camp. That camp was destroyed and finally was sent to Sobibor. Alexander planned and led a revolt in Sobibor with six Jews. The huge revolt caused the death of ten german officers and 38 Ukranian guards. He would join the Soviet army once again and be released from it.

Alexander Pechersky was an upstander during the Holocaust. During the war, when Alexander revolts against his concentration camp, it states ”Pechersky’s men attacked the German officers, killing ten of them… the prisoners killed or wounded 38 Ukrainian guards”(encyclopedia). This demonstrates the resistance during the Holocaust. The Nazis wanted society to imprison people and keep them as bystanders. Alexander Pechersky is an upstander because he resists against their view of society. This lesson can teach people to stand up against what is wrong and change it to make it right. The lesson can also inspire people to become an upstander instead of remaining a bystander. During the Holocaust Alexander Pechersky was an example of an upstander.

Martin Niemoller teaches people to stand up for another group of people. In the poem,"First They Came for the Jews", it states on the last line " then they came for me- and there was no one left to speak for me." During times of oppression, someone must be an upstander or els everyone will remain as bystanders. Therefor, opression will only continue and get worse without an upstander. The only way for the silence to be broken is for a bystander or someone that will be a bystander to stand up. It becomes easier for someone who is not the victim to stand up than someone who is. Martin Niemoller teaches people to fight for another group of people.

Peterś burning of the Star of David is an act of resistance. When Peter is ripping of his Star of David, Anne asks, "What are you doing." Peter replies with "taking it off"(pg.457). This represents resistance against an oppressive force. Rules become mandated against the bystander's will and to resist against it is to disregard those rules. Peter is breaking the rules by tearing apart the star of david while the Nazis force it upon them. In the Play "The diary of Anne Frank", Peter shows resistance by burning the Star of David
