Paleolithic as a whole is so interesting to me, but the bear cave painting had to be my favorite. It is amazing to me how accurate the bear looks, when the artist had no reference in the moment to paint it.

I think Stonehenge is such a beautiful piece of art. It holds a lot of symbolism and power and I'd love to visit it one day.

The Lapis Lazuli of the Bull's beard really pulls the piece together, and is just so beautiful. There is so many gorgeous details on the lyre, like all the interesting images shown below the Bull on the front of the lyre.

Babylonian

I loved learning more about this Babylonian version of a dragon, and seeing it on the brick wall is very cool. The Lapis Lazuli in the background really brings it all together. I especially love the talons of the back legs.

Assyrian

The Lamassu statues were definitely my favorite part of the Assyrian period. I love that you can admire the statues from the frontal and side view with the fifth leg being included. The symbolism of the guardians is also very interesting to me.

Egyptian: Old Kingdom

I'm amazed by the detail and beauty of this sculpture of Queen Nefertiti. The wrinkles of her neck and her cheek bones are so beautifully done and detailed making her look very life-like.

All the materials used in this funerary mask are so beautiful and all the details on the pieces of clothing are done so well.

Cycladic

It was very interesting to me how simple all the sculptures from the Cycladic period are, but they also portray a fair amount of emotion. You can clearly tell the figure is sitting in a chair, playing an instrument of some kind.

Minoan

I love how the octopus looks very cartoony due to the eyes, but the tentacles are painted so beautifully and the movement looks as if the octopus is swimming. I love the all the little details around the octopus on the vase too.

Mycenaean

This piece is very beautiful, yet haunting at the same time. The gold and the shape make it seem like a representation of the sun. One of my favorite things about the mask is the way the shape of the ears are so stylized.

It is amazing to me how the anatomy is so accurate for its time. The figure is in a fairly stiff stance, but his body language and even his calm expression conveys so much emotion.

The movement in this sculpture is simply mesmerizing. All the details, and the anatomy of the man comes together beautifully.

This statue has always been a favorite of mine. It is amazing how a statue without a face can portray so much emotion. I love drawing wings, and seeing this beautifully sculpted wings gives me so much inspiration.

I've always loved the story of Romulus and Remus, so this statue was a favorite of mine. I love how the she wolf's mane was sculpted and stylized.

Roman

This statue is very powerful. The outstretched hand of Marcus Aurelius seems very commanding and almost intimidating. The sculpted drapery and the horse is so beautiful and was done so well.

I'm fascinated by the way whales were represented in early Christian art. It is so strange but interesting how whales were shown as more dog like creatures with fish qualities.

I really love this piece with the Savior and a horse. I love how majestic the Christ looks, and the horse looks quite cartoony and slightly out of place. I made a mosaic once and I know how time consuming it is, so I have a deep respect for such detailed mosaics.

I love the way this lion is represented. It is very stylized and very abstract. I love the little details sculpted on it, especially the words along it's neck.

I am a really big fan of Celtic art and stories, and the art style of this belt buckle makes me very happy. The swirly designs and symbols are so gorgeous.

Carolingian

I really love this art style. Though the proportions are off, it is so stylized and almost cartoonish. The exaggerated wrinkles of the fabric are very fun to look at and catch the viewer's eye immediately.

This piece is so powerful, representing Christ on the cross. All the little details especially the symbols behind is head are very beautiful.

I love the way the lions are drawn here, especially the use of the blue coloring. They are so stylized and iconic to this time period.

The Stained glass at Notre Dome is my favorite of this time period. There are so many colors and details, and so many small pictures that add up to create a beautiful piece.

13th-/14th-Century Italy (Proto-Renaissance)

This piece is my favorite of this time period because of the detail and beauty of it. The symbolism is very powerful as it is the creation of Adam, and the two fingers almost touching is such a cool and beautiful detail.
