Today I have begun planning for FMP. I have created a mind map for some of my ideas. I know that I would love to do a form of animation as its something I love and would like it to be my FMP as its also something I generally get higher grade on in past projects. Another idea is of nature and walking through the first and having impressionist shots of things like the trees and people and the wildlife. If I do the animation I will have to improve on my drawing skills as I am not that good. A back up plan for this is my Dad drawing some for me as he is good at this but it might be difficult as he doesn't have a lot of time. If I do the nature I will have to practise some of my camera techniques but I think this will be the easier of the two to make.

This week I have been planning my FMP, I began by creating a mind map and planning some initial ideas. the three that I favoured and would like to have done were; "A day in the life of Finnick", "Nature" and Hiding in the dark. To help me decide on what I would like to do I did a variety of research on the different ideas. I did some rough drawings, experimented with natural shots, potential costs involved and researching current professional work. I decided not to do "A day in the life of Finnick" because of the cost of the camera and it probably wouldn't be able to get a distinction. I decided not to do nature as it would be very difficult to get it to look professional. I will be making "Hiding in the dark", it will be an animation made on After Effects. The genre is going to be that of an original fairy tale with a horror influences. I then researched the history of silent movies and saw how film had progressed through the years. I then looked into some modern day versions, I learnt that most of these are still set in the area of silent movies and others a often comedic effects. This is something I would like to do differently as I want to create a scary feeling to the film. When I researched the process of Disney animated movies. I found this fascinating to see it and I realised that the main process had stayed the same. Now we have to convenience of computers but the drawing is always the base of the animation. I learnt from this that as long as you put in the effort and take time to get the detail right then it makes all of the difference and helps create a really good animation. When I saw some professional work was simple drawings I felt that I will be able to make my animation with my own simple drawings that doesn't have to be too technical or complicated. This is a relief for me as I am not a good artist and I was worried about how it would look. I plan to make to facial features of the people to be mostly eyes only and the Beast to be simple and rough looking. I spoke to a teacher and they gave me the idea of drawing the character, creating the final effects on photoshop and then printing it our and crumpling it up and the using that as the final character. I'm going to experiment with this and see if I like the effect and I also want to research into some of the different animation techniques that people have used professionally for things like walking and leaves falling. I have learnt that simplicity is the best way to make a great animation, even if it isn't perfectly smooth and uncomplicated visuals but you get it right and have a good story line then it still looks professional. I am going to use this when creating my animation and will be practising this during next week.
