The material universe is secondary to the one true universe of the mind.

Theology:

Idealism makes no claims about the existence of God as a being, but it does claim that there is an absolute reality outside of humanity.

Anthropology:

Human beings see only the shadows of the truth through the physical world. However, they can grow closer to the Absolute Self through the cultivation of the mind and reason.

Ontology:

The true substance of existence is thought and the mind. The body, physical matter, and the senses are not directly tied to the nature of existence.

Reality and the universe are made up of physical matter.

Theology:

The form of God can exist without physical matter.

Anthropology:

Humanity is both an observer and a participant in reality. Humans may gain knowledge and experience, but the universe continues on regardless.

Ontology:

Existence requires form, and physical matter cannot exist without that form.

The universe was designed, and every effect in the universe has a cause.

Theology:

The is an Unmoved Mover, who designed the universe. One branch of Neo-Scholasticism claims this is the Christian God. God is reason.

Anthropology:

Humans are rational and are naturally drawn towards the truth of the universe.

Ontology:

Existence is reason.

Humans can never know the absolute origin and nature of the universe. If it exists, it exists outside of the human observer.

Theology:

The existence of God or a higher being is impossible to determine because it can not be shown through empirical methods.

Anthropology:

Humans are only capable of knowing probability, not absolute truth.

Ontology:

The nature of existence cannot be known, and what is "true" today may change tomorrow.

There is no way to know the origin and nature of the universe because language is not an accurate reflection of reality.

Theology:

The existence and nature of God exist only within the language people use to conceptualize those ideas.

Anthropology:

Humans are unable to look at things objectively because their unique experiences and understanding of language will always influence their interpretations.

Ontology:

Whoever holds the power to control language determines the nature of reality and existence.

God is the originator and creator of the universe. The nature of the universe is to reflect God's glory and worship Him.

Theology:

God is the creator of all things, the ultimate source of truth, reason, and life. His work is reflected in everything He's made, and we can be in relationship with Him.

Anthropology:

Humans were created for relationship with God and others. However, the fall resulted in all humans being born with a sinful nature. Only through relationship with Christ can humans be redeemed and restored to their created purpose.

Ontology:

The nature of existence is dependent on God, His character, and His design.

Truth is perfect and eternal.

Validity:

Idealism finds its validity in the Coherence theory. Truth can be regarded as truth when it is universally agreed upon (eg. math).

Truth is an absolute, objective thing that exists independently of human experience.

Realism uses the Correspondence theory to determine the validity of truth. If something is true, it will line up with the experience of the observer.

Morality is outside of human existence. It is fundamental to the nature of reality, and it does not change. A person can live a moral life by living in harmony with the universe - true reality.

Aesthetics:

Beauty is likewise objective and tied to the true reality and the mind.

Moral laws are written into nature, and by observing them, people can learn the ethical way to live.

Aesthetics:

Nature contains the standards of beauty, and the goal of artists should be to recreate nature as realistically as possible.

People rationally know what is good and follow morality when they act rationally without giving in to their emotions and desires.

Aesthetics:

Art is created through intuition, and its meaning is self-evident to the artist.

Humans are responsible for determining what is ethical. If something works for society, it's good. If it doesn't work, it's bad.

Aesthetics:

The value of beauty and art is subjective and determined by the views of a society. If something evokes an aesthetic experience, it's art.

Ethics are determined by those who control the language. Therefore, it is important to include discourse from both the prominent and marginalized groups of society to ensure a system that works well for more people.

Aesthetics:

Beauty and art are subjective, relative to the individual, culture, and language.

Morality is determined by God and has many aspects, but it can be simplified into two main things. Love God and love people. Everything else is based on those two principles.

Aesthetics:

While people and cultures have different perspectives on what is the most aesthetically pleasing in beauty and art, the morality of aesthetics is tied to whether or not it is honoring God. People can also interpret art that was meant to dishonor God in a way that honors Him instead, but that does not change what the art was made for.
