The story of John Riordan.... by

Now, you need to put the story of John Riordan to the present context. Currently, and especially here in this country there is a trend to tell workers t o 'bilndly' follow and obey orders from their superior. In the context of Organizational Behavior - concepts of loyalty as it is embodied in Organizational Citizenship Behavior are often invoked. Also the concept of SOP (standard operating procedure) is often used to get people to obey orders without questioning.

What do you think? Is this right?

For my opnion it is incorrect, because the instructions received can be questioned if it does not show anything negative, for example a manager forces his employees to oppress another employee. Sometimes the instructions received from the superior are difficult for us to refuse because the subordinates are paid for the work done but if the offense to be found can be fined as stipulated in the act. So in conclusion, all the instructions received and positive and negative we have to think long beforehand and evaluate the effects of glorious future

Not forcing their employees to do things for them by using their authority in the organization, but concerns and motivates their employees. That’s what a superior should be. A good superior capables to influence their employees through their power of personalities and positive energy, and avoid from utilizing concept of SOP without questioning. By applying SOP concept in employees in order to make them to obey orders will only lead to high absenteeism and low productivity. They are not happy in the organization with this kind of superior, some may opt for turnover. So, I think this SOP concept is not the best ways to get people to obey orders, there are many alternatives that can tackle this problem.

All in all this kind of right decisions is deserve to be proud of as it bring positive result to the company, but if the things or the decision making gone wrong the employee the first one who took the blame, not the top level manager who is the one giving the instructions. So it is important to analyze whatever steps or decisions that we took before actually really done it.

I do not agree with to such idea but i do not completely oppose to it. There is an idiom that says "two heads are better than one". We cant deny that the subordinates might have better ideas with lower risk than the ideas that we confronted to them. thus, simply telling the subordinates to obey and agree to the orders without asking their opinion will likely expose the company at higher risk to loss. Moreover, good management and great ideas helps the department/company to cope and adapt to today's economy. However, there are times where this concept need to be applied such as time pressure.

In my opinion, implying SOP in organization is necessary but only to a certain extend. SOP helps to minimize errors that may occur due to misinterpretation or miscommunication of information at work field and also avoiding the confusions and mixing up of certain procedures. SOP is suitable for jobs that requires strict procedural process e.g. those who are working in medical field, engineering and etc. Meanwhile, other type of jobs is encouraged to apply SOP in their operations as it can help workers to make a better and faster decision making by referring to the guidelines provided. However, it is also important to acknowledge the opinion or views that workers have to offer. In certain cases, decisions should not be made solely based on SOP especially when it involves logical thinking. In John Riordan case, he set his priority in that critical moment which is to go against the instructions given to save hundreds of lives. Sometimes it is acceptable to disobey the SOP given if the results of disobeying is greater and benefits all party compared to being loyal to the company and blindly follow their instructions.

Different events call for different approaches. As for John Riordan's position, it is acceptable that he doesn't adhere to the SOP because his actions are genuinely out of humanity instincts to save hundreds of lives that were at stake. Greater goods do not always come from instructions, instead they also come from doing what is right. All in all, SOP is just a constructive guideline and should only be applied depending on situations.

Every employees in the organization have the right to give their own ideas and opinions. it's unfair if they don't have the chance to speak out bout their opinion and as a superior, they should listen and concern to their employees's idea or opinion. As a successful superior, they should treat employees fairly and involve employees in theft policy creation. It's because the employee is supportive of the organization itself. They also have the opportunity to be heard. For example, employee should have authority to correct any mistakes that have been made and yes i think the Supportive Operating Procedure (SOP) should be applied depend on the situation.

SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) can be used to improve the quality of work. In my opinion, there is pro and cons in conducting this concept. As we all know, SOP is the basic guidance or regulations in order for workers to perform their job more effective and achieve their goals. But, the workers still have their right to share their opinion and ideas instead of blindly follow the instructions. Basically in organization, the lower management or workers need to follow or obey all the task and instruction given from the superior but it is not compulsory to follow it blindly if you find out it is not right. That is unfair to the workers if they do not have the chance to speak out about their opinions. They have opportunity and the right to be heard. As a smart and good leader, you should treat the employees fairly and try to make some time to hear your employees' ideas and suggestions. As a conclusion, SOP is just a constructive guidline and should only be applied depending on situations. There is a lot of company outside there which are not following rigidly the SOP but still can make a great income.

OCB is defined by the willingness of an employee to go further beyond his or her work responsibilities and to do additional jobs that is not stated in their job descriptions. Nowadays however, majority of the workers do not apply OCB and do not perform additional tasks as it is not stated in the SOPs of the company, and they are afraid that they will be punished if they do not follow the SOP. Hence, they will just follow blindly whatever they are being told to do without questioning their superiors. From the company's point of view, it is right as they do not want to be held responsible for anything that they did not ask their employees to do. For the workers, it is not right as they have a right to say or do whatever they feel is right, but must accept the risks and consequences from disobeying the company SOP.

SOP are considers as a basic guideline for the workers when performing their tasks.

In my opinion, Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) is importance in a company operation. They follow the order that given by the superiors and the rules of the company. The reason is this SOP is a way to let them having a direction about their work flow so that they won't get confuse on their job description. As there will new workers intake and they are new and they does not what to do and how to start their job as they might does not have enough experience. Besides, using SOP concept is good to have a limited to workers as every workers might have their own opinion. So, if there does not have a rules that workers need to follow, all workers will do anything they like. This will cause operation of one company to messy and not proper operate. It will drop the image of one company. But is order given are being follow all the times, it does not give chances for workers to voice out their opinion. Workers talent won't be seen as they seldom have chance to things according to what they like

SOP is importance，this is because follow the orders without questioning can make sure that the operation can be cartied out under a fluent condition，if the employees follow the orders which are black and white listed as term and condition，that meant they obey the rules of the company，because the terms be listed in black and white sure the company had done many experiment about the terms，so it was very reasonable and must be obeyed by the employees. But somehow，blindly follow the orders given by a superior is not good，not everyone is the god so how perfect of the one，he or she also will do mistake so question superiors' orders when you are confusing about the orders which is good，this can help a employee know the orders better and carry it out very well.

in my opinion, workers should only applied the SOP as a guideline. It is not necessary to follow the procedures accordingly because in reality there are many unexpected problems occured when working in a company. Even though, following the SOP will indirectly give a better better overall result for the company, but it will limits the workers ability as they can perform something in a more fast and easier method

Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) is a procedure specific to operation that describes the activities necessary to complete tasks in accordance with the industry regulations and provincial laws. SOP are considers as a basic guideline for the workers when performing their tasks. Besides that, SOP also help in increase the company overall performance and used to improve the quality of works. From the question, in the country there is a tend to tell workers to bindly follow and obey orders from the superior. This SOP bring a lot of benefits to the company because it help the company to avoid from all the unecessary responsibility seen all the tasks are already set and specific to each of the employees. However, in term of the employees, the concept of SOP is often used to get people to obey orders without questioning. Every workers must have their right to give their opinion and idea and they are encourge to give opinion when there is an idea or planning that will bring the effects and results on them. Besides that, the employees should not blindly following on what is given. They should understand and know what can be done and what shouldn’t be done. They should also know on how to differentiate what is correct and wrong instead of just blindly following on what is given.

In my view, not necessarily employees always obey the instructions from the superior because they also have the right to speak. If an employer is telling a bad thing, it is not necessary for the employee to comply with the instructions as it may harm the worker's performance.

Although SOP can be used to improve the standard working, this however makes them no different than just robots, blindly following the rules. Yes, this is a great act in order to be consistency, to make the company look professional Thus, I don’t think that the SOP is right on certain matter. Certain matter such as abandoning everything and blindly follow the above command. However in term as the video above, during the fall of Sagon, we can’t look over the people that we have been working, interact and living together with them. It is however, is important that everyone in a team need to working together and follow the rule, but, they must know the limit between what should be done and what shouldn’t be done.

SOP has its own importance to the employee as it is a procedures or regulations that have to be followed by them in their routine operations. But, in my opinion, making the employee obey the order without giving them a chance to speak is not right. If they feel unfair or dissatisfaction , they should have the right to voice out their opinion to their superior. As a superior, they have to accepted and heard what the employee opinion as they also play important role in the organization.

In my point of view, it is not right.
It is important to have SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) to understand and also to improve the quality of an employee 's performances in a workplace, but SOP is not a procedure that can make an employee to blindly follow all the orders including the orders which is out of an employee task. Yes i do agree that employee should be guided along their working performances but employee must also given a chance to share their ideas and also concerns in the company especially in decision making process. By doing this, the management can increase the sense of belonging of the employee towards the company and also could reduce the issues among employee.

In my opinion, SOP can be used to improve the quality of work but it is not necessary as it might makes the employees not comfortable. This will effect the company production. A leader need to stay on their purpose and mission but the employees have the right to give their feedback or opinion. Every team members should participate in accomplished the mission of the company.

In my opinion, it is not right to tell workers to blindly follow and obey orders from their superior. SOP concept is not good to practice because it will make employees stress and not happy to work. So, it will effect to the company production. As a good superior should at least hear what the employees suggestion or opinion so the relationship between the top manager and employees are good enough to work together in good condition. So, the employees feel more happy to work and do the best to complete their tasks.

SOP( Standard Operating Procedure) it can be used to improved the quality to work in a consistent and efficient manner throughout an organization. From my perspective, SOP is important for an organization because in a good SOP it can be clearly outline the steps and inform the employee for any safety concerns. Of course every employee should complete their work in the fixed time so that the organization can remain consistent. Although SOP is important, but as a superior, they must hear their employee voice because every employee have their own chance to say it out their trouble and ideas. Thus, the SOP can important for an organization but it must depends on the situation it is.

SOP is the Standard Operating Procedure, every company has SOP in working to ensure safety and work efficiency are running smoothly. In my opinion, each employee must follow SOP that have been set to working. This is because SOP is a good thing for all parties involved in making work especially working in group or teamwork. Besides that, the superior also plays an important role and gives a good example to their employees. This is because if superior unfair in the work then it will be a problem to their employees. Therefore, all parties are responsible for following the SOP.

In my opinion, I think it is not right because as both of the concept above, concept of Loyalty and Standard of Operating Procedure is a basic guidance or regulations in order for the workers to perform their job more effectively and achieving the goals. But the workers still have their right to share their own opinion or ideas instead of just blind follow the instructions. As this will happen some unnecessary anger among the superior and workers (organizational stress).

Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) is a set of step by step instructions compiled by an organizations to help workers carry out complex routine operations. In my opinion, the concept used is wrong. Employee has their own right to express their opinion and speak out their ideas and what they are feel in organization. If there are tasks from our superior, we should follow and complete the tasks but we should not blindly follow it if the task are not suitable.

In my opinion, if there are tasks from our superior, yes must follow and accomplish our tasks. but we should not blindly follow it if the task are not suitable. But regarding the SOP which is often used in management, it is really important for our organization. Just imagine if there is no protocol or SOP to follow in the organization, of course all the workers doing their work maybe bad or good sometimes. Some company which not use the SOP can doing well too. It is just depend to the company. If it is a manufacturer company, of course the SOP really important because there are many processes and procedures to follow but not for the company except the manufacturer ones. Standard Operating Procedure (SOPs) are step by step instructions that act as guidelines for employees work processes. But in my opinion, SOP can be applied in organization depends on the situation. every employees have their own right to voice in the making decisions or give opinions in organization. As a good superior, every employee should be treat fairly and should have their own opportunity to be heard. Even they are just lower employee, they should have the opportunity to correct any mistakes that been made. probably their ideas or opinion can be one of the ideas can improve the performance of an organization.

From my perspective, it is not right because sop concept is not the best way to get people obey orders. This is because as superior should hear the voice from employee before making decision and employee have right to express out their opinion and ideas. Therefore, superior can’t force employee using the authority given. That to make, everyone gets the satisfied results and indirectly improve the performance of an organization.

John Riordan is a brave man that seek to help those who his employees forbid him to rescue. but, i think the concept of Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) is not suitable for the organization.

SOP is the Standard Operating Procedure to ensure the company operate well. In the opinion ,SOP cannot judging by right or wrong. It is a guild line that provide by upper management to ensure everything operate smoothly and their follower does not take for granted. If a smart leader, they will works in he smart way in which they be more flexible and change the company SOP based on the situation.

SOP is vital in ensuring the operations of an organization is progressing smoothly and in a good manner however it is only applicable in certain situations.

In my opinion, tell workers to blindly follow and obeys orders from their superior is not a good practice. Rules shall be followed, but it is just a guide to help workers carry out their duty, it should not be a barrier for the worker to think out of the box or do things in different way. SOP is a concept which is fixed, but human creativity and mind is unlimited. This is what make things change and this is how we evolute and being brought to a better life. So, i disagree with the concept of SOP because world is never ideal and we never know what will happen, hence, rules is just particularly a guide.

In my opinion, Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) is not entirely unnecessary but when dealing with human life, i think we all have the right to abandon this SOP, based on the John Riordan story. The SOP is only a guidance in organization to make sure the employees obey their superior instructions for the sake of the organization. A wise human can know what is the right thing to do especially regarding human life.

John Riordan is a brave man who seek to help those who his employes forbid him to rescue. He defies his employer to help these people who seeks help from others. I think this is an example why SOP is not 100% suitable for the organizations. The superior needs to listen to their employees as well .even though superior usually have more experience and abilities from their inferior. SOP is bulid to achieve efficiency in the company by blindly follow orders from superior but it is wrong because even an employer can be wrong.

As a superior, we should always listen to their perspective to build the harmony relationship. The SOP is the guidance for employees and not limitation to voice out for them.

In my opinion, if there are tasks from our suerior, yes we must follow and accomplish that. But we should not blindly follow it if the task are not suitable. But regarding the SOP which is often used in management, it is really important for our organization. just imagine if there is no protocal or SOP to follow in the organization, of course, all the workers doing their work maybe bad or maybe good. some company which not use the SOP can doing well. it is just depend to the company. if it is a manufacturer company, of course the SOP is really important because there are so many processes and procuders. But not for company

In my opinion, the concept of this SOP is wrong. This is because employee has their own right to express and speak out their ideas, opinions or dissatisfaction. As a good and successful superior, we should listen to their perspective too. So, employee may not feel like they are ignore by their superior. Sometimes, employee ideas or opinion can help their superior in order to make decisions. Therefore, superior should treats their employee nicely, so organization goal can be achieve.

In my point of view, the concept of SOP is actually contrary to human right as everyone deserve to express their opinion and also it is suppose to have an agreement from both parties. Not blindly follow whatever instructions from the top management without a proper explanation given. Anyway back to the John Riordan case i would say that i am also would called him a hero. He is not just following instruction given but also his rescue hundreds of lives. And the task is not easy for someone to takes responsibility to done such a dangerous yet noble intentions.

In my opinion, the concept of this SOP is absolutely wrong. Each employee has the right to speak and to express his or her opinion. It is unfair for all employees if they are not given the right to give opinions and ideas to superior. This may also cause dissatisfaction to the employees. The ideas or opinions from other employees are essential to improving the performance of an organization. Therefore, if the superior treats the employees nicely, its can contribute to the growth of a company.

for me, everyone have right to speak, as a superior, we should show the leadership in a proper manner and concern about the employees feeling at least let voice out their opinion. if we treat them well, its will impact their mood and productivity in working place. because as a leader, we should be a good role model

I will say that , as a superior, we should always listen to and show some concern about our employees opinions and feelings. so in this case, the concept used here is actually not really encouraged. this is because, all the employees have their rights to speak out what they feel. happy employees will be considered as productive employees. so in order to maintain the productivity in employees and achieve organization goals, the superiors must always treat their employees fairly. thus, the SOP is not encouraged to use because it make the employees to not to express their feelings and opinions whenever they want.

In my point of view, employees have the freedom to speak if they are in the trouble. As a superior, they need to have a proper leadership styles.

In order to creates a cheerful and harmony at workplace, superior always play an important roles. The SOP is the guidance for employees and not the limitation to voice out for them. It is unfair for them in an organization and the superior should treat them in same manner.

In my opinion, while Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) is an importance in helping to achieve efficiency and upmost performance in organizations, it can be also a wall when it comes to siding with emotional reasoning and do things which we believe is the right way. According to John Riordan' s story, after evacuation from Saigon, Riordan keeps seeking ways to rescue his Vietnamese co-workers who were ineligible for evacuation, while he and his fellow American bankers were ordered by superiors to leave. As he tries to rescue them, Riordan was then threatened by his superiors to be terminated if he does not cease his actions. However, Riordan chooses to fly to Saigon alone to save them from the war, as he promised them he would come back for them. Therefore, while loyalty for organizations should be remained, SOP serves as a guideline, not a force which presses employees to blindly follow given orders, as they are also think of the outcomes for the actions and choose the right way to do something if they believe so, like how Riordan chooses to save his co-workers while risking his job on the line.

Standard of Operating(SOP) is importance to adapt in an organization without controversy, when founder establish his own business undoubtedly rigid of internal and external of organizational are always be priority. There are many ways to strengthen company, but even unbeatable strategy that only appropriate apply within organization because there are huge unforeseen factor are happened outside. With this fact, SOP play role as guidance to employees on things should and should not do. Besides that, management could measure their performance by using another assessment standard of method. I can conclude that SOP are useful for an organization in term of management.

In my opinion, we cannot use this concept for all situation although Standard operating procedure (SOP) is aim to achieve efficiency, quality output and uniformity of performance. This is because workers are human being, they have emotion. They cannot follow and obey orders without questioning, which just like robots. If they "blindly"follow and obey orders from superior, it mean they do not put their effort on their work. This is because the workers who put effort in their work will curious what is happening and why their superior ask them to do so. The superior also should explain to the worker so that the workers understand the situation in order to enable their workers obey their instruction.

Actually, S.O.P is a good work procedure to follow because we do the job step by step to avoid any incident or mistake happen can cause injury or harmful to worker and company as well. sometimes , we also tend to follow the rules, but if your think positively, that have benefit or advantages for us as well because want us have a safe working environment in the workplace. and the rules also need to reviewing the law from time to time to make sure all party is satisfied with that decision.

In my opinion, every worker have their own right to give their thoughts and suggestions in any kind of situation or problem that they are facing in the company. SOP is just as a guideline for the workers to follow but it depends on the situation itself. Not all problems or things need to follow exactly as the SOP that have been stated by the company. If the workers feel they have their right to settle the problems by their own way and as long as it does not break the rules and positive, then they may just proceed. Based on the story of John Riordan, He did not listen to his boss but everybody knew that he was doing the right thing. Even though he can just saves his life but he brought along his other colleges together to escape from the Saigon.

in my opinion the concept of SOP (standard operating procedure) is very important in the organization to encourage all employees to communicate with each other. This is to make the work more efficient and communication between workers happen more easily. This concept also allows the superior to communicate with employees. but the concept of loyalty in organization depends on the behavior of the superior. employees should not be too loyal to employers who are overemphasizing production over employee health. Furthermore, employees may comply with every superiors' direction but if the instructions given do not cause conflict within the organization

In my opinion, every company have a rules and different ways to manage their employees. Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) plays a important roles to keep of efficient and make the company become profitability. This is because an SOP is a procedure specific to your operation that describes the activities necessary to complete tasks in accordance with industry regulations, provincial laws or even just your own standards for running your business. SOP can be a guideline to make employees become discipline and more productive. Besides that, Organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) also needed within an employees. Workers who engage in OCB tend to receive better performance ratings by their managers. In the same way, Workers who had OCB will be good in performance and enhance productivity because this kind of people are willing to help colleagues meet deadline or help new co-workers when they in difficult situation. So, i think these OCB and SOP are necessary apply in an organization and company to achieve performance goal rather than just follow any command from the manager.

In my opinion, I think that people should follow and apply Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) in their daily work processes and activities. In this circumstances, it is right. A SOP is a policy and procedure document which describes the regular recurring activities appropriate to quality operations. The purpose of a SOP is to carry out the operations correctly and always in the same manner. A SOP should be available at the place where the work is done". A SOP is a compulsory instruction. If deviations from this instruction are allowed, the conditions for these should be documented including who can give permission for this and what exactly the complete procedure will be.

The reason why do people need to follow these procedures is because regulations may require them as part of the compliance (OSHA, SOX, EPA, DOT, FDA). Besides, procedures protect work processes. Preventing process errors is the main reasons for writing procedures. Procedure or work instruction act as controls or countermeasure for identified risks that can create defects, injuries, or non-conformances. Furthermore, procedures protect workers. Workers who are following established procedures have more confidence that their actions are supported by management, the underlying statutes or regulations, and that they are following industry best practices while protect workers from injuries. Moreover, procedures protect customers. Customers are entitled to dependable product or service delivery based on established and accepted measures and not on any one worker’s personal values, and not varying from one geographic area to another. The standard operating procedures protect your customers from defects.

However, I feel that in certain circumstances, people can choose not to follow the SOP. In this circumstances, it is wrong. They have the right to question the procedures if they are disagree with the procedure set. For instance, one site often does processes in a different way, so people often get procedures that are irrelevant for different sites. This results in standard operating procedures that are not necessarily based on best practice. Generally, these SOP's get ignored because procedures are incorrect and inconsistent for a particular site. The same things can be applied to ethics and morality. The superiors can choose to follow his or her ethical and moral values and beliefs rather than follow the SOP in certain circumstances. The superiors can choose what is more important and correct according to them. For example, in John Riordan’s story, his action of deciding to save many lives of his workers and to go against his superior’s order is a perfect example. He did a great job back them although he might face the risk of being punished from his action.

A lot of SOPs pass on the 'how', but not the 'why.' This means that company processes get repeated without people ever questioning why they need to do something. Over time, staff are taught processes that solve problems that no longer exist. Superiors should empower their staff by explaining why they have to something, so they know whether that process is redundant when things change. People have the right to ask the reasons behind every procedure without to obey them blindly. They can go through every procedure and ask why they have to do that procedure. As a result, the staff will be comfortable and confident to follow and apply the correct SOP in their daily work activities.

On the other hand, from the perspective of Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB), people are willing to go beyond what is formally expected of them to contribute to the well-being of their organization and those in it. An example can be taken from John Riordan’s story. He was willing to go extra miles to save many lives of his workers. His action back then has changed the lives of his workers.

In my opinion, SOP is similarly as a rule for the specialists to take after yet it relies upon the circumstance itself. Not all issues or things need to take after precisely as the SOP that have been expressed by the organisaon. On the off chance that the laborers feel they have their entitlement to settle the issues by their own particular manner and as long as it doesn't defy the norms and positive, at that point they may simply continue. In light of the narrative of John Riordan, He didn't tune in to his manager however everyone realized that he was making the best decision.
