reads on they will become aware of how to isolate the machinery using the isolating switch.

These enable an assessment of risks to be made and to specify control measures which will be 

put in place in order to minimise the risk. A permit is needed when maintenance work can only be carried

- The person issuing a permit to work needs to be at such a level

where he/she is able to enforce the permit to work system in 

accordance with the organisations policy.

- The permit to work should only be given to a competent person.

The competent person should either be the person in charge of the

activity to be carried out or the person who is actually going to do the work.

- Both parties should be aware of (or should be able to foresee) the hazards

and potential risks involved in the activity to be carried out under the permit.

• who is to supervise (if applicable) and who is to carry out the work
• the types of tools and PPE, as applicable, required for the activity

When considering a permit to work issued for hot work 

(Work involving flame cutting apparatus, oxyacetylene welding apparatus, 

electric welding apparatus...), the permit should ensure the following is carried out:

• Personnel trained in use of fire extinguishers must be in the working team.
• At least one appropriate fire extinguisher must be at the place of work.
• The work area is to take place must be cleared of flammable materials.
• Heat or smoke detectors should be isolated before hot work begins.
• Remain at the workplace for at least 30 minutes after hot work ends.
• Remove isolation from heat or smoke detectors after hot work ends.

These operators should also be given refresher courses so they do not become complacent with the operations.

A person can be regarded as competent if they have sufficient training and experience or knowledge and other 

qualities to properly meet the safety obligations that are required by the workingenviroment.

Once noise levels exceed a safe amount, 85dbs, then the sign will light up indicating that hearing protection (Ear defenders/plugs) must be worn.

There are two noise level alert signs in the workshop, the first can be found above the entrance and the other one inside of the workshop.
