Publishes his first story, Jonh Redding Goes to Sea in 1921, in the University magazine. In 1924, she was forced to abandon her career because she could not finance it. In 1923 she obtained a scholarship to study anthropology at Barnad College, an affiliate of Columbia University thanks to Annie Nathan Meyer, an anthropologist.
