Lonnie arrived at the Latinx Graduation dressed to impress, ready to present a scholarship to one of the graduates. I remember the student asking her, “Are you the president of Financial Aid?” She chuckled and replied, “No, I’m just stylish.” The student laughed and said, “Yes, you are!” Her warmth and humor made students feel welcomed. She will always be remembered that way.

In the wild and tumultuous world that can be Miramar, I could count on Lonnie's steady calm and kindness to brighten my day. She always helped me make things happen, saying "yes" and "maybe" whenever I came to her with a need. And she was also so kind and respectful of my time when she came to me with needs of her own. And she always wore the BEST shoes! As my daughter would say, "SLAY Queen!"

I miss her light.

Lonnie was one of the first people I met at Miramar. Being new and just starting out Lonnie always said hello and greeted me with a warm smile whenever I saw her on campus. Lonnie always came by the child development center and talked to me and genuinely cared about how I was doing being a new faculty 25 years ago. The Legacy Plaza is one of the most perfect places on campus to honor Lonnie, because she left a legacy of kindness, compassion and a warmth that will never be forgotten. Thank you Lonnie, for making my first years at Miramar and beyond welcoming.

I met Lonnie 18 years ago when I started at Miramar College in the Financial Aid Office. She was one of the first people I met that was automatically kind and willing to take the time to show me around the campus. She was an advocate for students, a hard worker and a great friend! Lonnie always had a positive attitude and a smile and willing to support where ever she could. She is truly missed!

Lonnie you were one of those that made me first feel welcomed at Miramar. We spent many years together collaborating on the Scholarship Ceremonies. It helped us to bond over stress, laughter, and fond memories of pulling it off each year. My fellow Taurus was always committed to the cause and making our students feel truly celebrated. What I most enjoyed was your distinct laugh and the ability to spread that to others and put them at ease. We shined when you were here, but your legacy, will always be part of Miramar's light. Thank you Lonnie.
