In this poem of our lives, I will contribute my whole soul and being to the world. I will contribute my intellect towards my field of study, most likely in business or medical. I will vie to make advancements to the world we live in, in order to make the world a better place. But, above all, I will be a light unto others. I will be a guide, a teacher, a counselor, to all, no matter the circumstance. I will give my counsel to all that ask, from children, to friends, colleagues, even those above me. I will bring peace and positivity with me wherever I may go, lifting others up with me. I am hoping to leave a message of perseverance and compassion behind with me. I also would like to spread a message about the nature of society today, specifically that it has a lot of areas to improve.

I find this poem, along with the movie, to be very tear-jerking, while also very very uplifting. In Whitman's poem, he describes the nature that we live in, and asks a question, one that I relate very deeply to. He gives his answer, that we "may contribute a verse," to life, which I find very uplifting and inspirational. This is echoed in the movie with the motto "Carpe Diem," and the actions of the characters. I find both of these pieces to be very uplifting in nature, and they inspire me to live my life to the fullest.

"Our life is like a German Confederacy, made up of petty states, with its boundary forever fluctuating, so that even a German cannot tell you how it is bounded at any moment. The nation itself, with all its so- called internal improvements, which, by the way are all external and superficial, is just such an unwieldy and overgrown establishment, cluttered with furniture and tripped up by its own traps, ruined by luxury and heedless expense, by want of calculation and a worthy aim, as the million households in the land; and the only cure for it, as for them, is in a rigid economy, a stern and more than Spartan simplicity of life and elevation of purpose." -Henry David Thoreau

I pass from it as from a bean field into the forest, and it is forgotten. In one half-hour I can walk off to some portion of the earth's surface where a man does not stand from one year's end to another, and there, consequently, politics are not, for they are but as the cigar-smoke of a man." -Henry David Thoreau

This rule, equally arduous in actual and in intellectual life, may serve for the whole distinction between greatness and meanness. It is the harder, because you will always find those who think they know what is your duty better than you know it.
