The problem of alcohol in the 1800-1900s was that drinking often caused violence and economic hardship at the homes. Saloons where alcohol was served those political bosses made it that women cannot enter. The women also blamed alcohol on the abuse of wives and children and the squandering of family resources.

People who are drinking alcohol can end up having high blood pressure, heart diseases, stroke, liver disease. There are many more different problems that can happen to your body while drinking alcohol, all these problems could lead to death.

In 1874 the WCTU(Women's Christian Temperance Union.) was founded. This group of women wanted the government to enact prohibition/a ban on all alcohol. Carrie Nation dedicated her life to fighting "demon rum." Her husband died due to heavy drinking. Which made her go into saloons swinging a hatchet and smashing beer kegs and liquor bottles.

Reformers now include MADD(mother against drunk driving).

This group of women focuses on how to end drunk driving and support the victims of these violent crimes. Another group is the AA(Alcoholics Anonymous). This group brings people together and helps them solve their drinking problems. They give you a book about 12 steps and 12 traditions on how you can stop your drinking problem. These groups focus more on helping people stay safe and not get hurt.

Solutions that happened were when in 1846 Maine was the first state to outlaw alcohol sales. Then in 1919 the 18th Amendment was ratified prohibiting the sale of alcohol. This then created the rise of bootlegging. Which then led to the 21st Amendment that repealed prohibition is ratified.

Some solutions for prohibition today are behavioral treatments, medications, support groups to help you stop drinking. Others ways to try and stop drinking is to call the help life line(988).

Some problems that were the same with prohibition back then vs today are that drinking alcohol lead to violence in people and was very bad

Some differences between prohibition today and back then was that today we ca figure out the different diseases alcohol can cause so we could really know how bad it is, while back then they didn't have all that technology so they wouldn't know what disease they could get

Something similar from today and back then is that back then there was the WCTU and today we have the MADD. Both of the organizations are made by women trying to stop drinking.

Some differences are that there are so many new different reformers that try to stop all the consumption of alcohol so people would listen and see how bad it is for you. But back then there wasn't many so not many people would listen.

Some similarities from then and now are that these solutions are trying to keep the people safe and protected.

Some differences are that back then the solutions were amendments, but today solutions are talking in groups and trying to help one another out. Another one is that now there is a help line that you can call and talk to someone.
