A key take away is that I have not been assessing phonemic awareness skills. I have been just teaching them whole group to everyone. I found phonemic awareness assessments in out new Sadlier curriculum and would like to start using that to assess the students.

Sound/Spelling is so very important especially for challenged readers. I refreshed and reviewed the 44 phonemes, or word sounds that make up the language. They're divided into 19 consonants, 7 digraphs, 5 'r-controlled' sounds, 5 long vowels, 5 short vowels, 2 'oo' sounds, 2 diphthongs. for spelling each week the students cut out the the 44 phonemes, or word sounds that make up the language. We identify and highlight the consonants, digraphs, 'r-controlled' sounds, long vowels, 5 short vowels, 'oo' sounds, diphthongs.

These words contain elements that do not follow the most common letter-sound correspondences. Some words are permanently irregular.
Since I teach mostly in Spanish, for me teaching students how to read in syllables is super important because Spanish is very syllabic. I'd like it if the book had a section for Spanish as well like they did for open and closed vowels.
