Public policy is the way that government can address, solve, and evaluate an issue. It provides the framework for for decision-making on a government level, and gives a step-by-step approach to problem solving. Public policy influences many areas in society such as education, healthcare, economy, and criminal justice.

We as citizens can take part in public policy by expressing our beliefs, turning our attention to immediate issues, and exercising our rights. For example, lobbying is used to influence public policy by giving facts and information about an issue or topic, as well as giving a voice to the issue. When public policy doesn't go the way the people want it to go, it is our right to vocalize our grievances and influence change that best suits the people's needs. To do this, we can protest, contact our representatives, write news articles, volunteer at nonprofit organizations, and much more.

We should have as much say in public policy as the government does, whether it be local, state, or federal, and need to work to establish that.

Public policy are actions or programs done by the government. They are made to reach certain goals, which would be problems or issues needing to be bettered. These policies regulate the actions of individuals in order to reach these goals. For example, an environmental policy may be put in place in order to regulate pollution from factories.

The most obvious way a citizen can partake in public policy is voting. Whoever citizens elect will speak during the process of policy making to voice their opinions which should reflect the ones of the people who voted for this official. However, citizens don't need to completely leave it to the government in order to make a change. Citizens can also advocate for themselves and others. Advocacy includes volunteering, raising awareness, and lobbying. Lobbying is when an individual or group attempts to influence the policy process and persuade the actions made by government officials on a specific issue.

These policies include many aspects of our community. Examples would be education funding, healthcare and environmental protections. Elected officials, government agencies and public input are what shape and form these policies. Citizens can participate in public policy at different levels within our government.
