To enhance motivation for us to adopt sustainable living style, we choose minimize waste and save energy as our goals by practising sustainable living as our routine and will post picture, boomerang and video to motivate ourselves.

In every year, millions of tons of waste are generated by human from the households and building construction such as plastic and many more thing that take a long time to dispose. To solve this problem, we decided to set our goal as minimize the amount of waste by reuse BPA-free bottle and reusable shopping bag. Waste minimization is defined as ‘systematically reducing waste at source’. It means improving the quality of waste generated to facilitate recycling and reduce hazard.

However, without paying more attention, we use a lot of energy each day. We decided to set our goal as energy saving to solve this problem. By doing simple things like using natural light in daytime in the house and iron large batches of clothes are the ways to save energy. Energy saving also known as energy conservation is the effort made to reduce the consumption of energy by using less of an energy service. Less consumption benefits the environment and protects wildlife.
(200 words)

Provided by FELICIA LIREK ANAK FERDINAND

It is undeniable fact that our modern lifestyle demands the utilization of energy for various purposes from domestic use to industrial benefits. The data from 2018 suggested that global demand has been increasing by 2.3% as we employ an incredible amount of energy every single day. Hence, we decided to take measures by switching our electrical devices to 5-star energy appliances that are certified by the Energy Commission of Malaysia to control the usage of electricity and reduce carbon emission from the power plant. We also train ourselves to favor the fan over switching on the air-conditioner despite the hot weather we are experiencing in Malaysia.

Waste-reducing also plays a fundamental part to conserve the environment. Reducing our waste means that there will be a much lesser landfill contribution that is already overwhelmed with a massive amount of trash. Therefore, it is significant to manage our waste efficiently by reusing a potential container and be creative to invest them into a useful product. To improve the efficacy of waste management, we also make use of rice water to water the plant instead of throwing them away. This method is beneficial for both waste management and environmental health.
(197 words)

Provided by NURUL IZZAH ILIYANI BINTI MOHD RAMLI

By eating organic food rather than eating meat you can reduce waste production from meat processing. Other than that, go vegan also can reduce carbon footprint. Animal farming requires massive amount of land, water, food and energy, therefore making it a leading contributor to global greenhouse emission. For example, it takes 2400 gallons of water just to produce 1lb of meat compared to 25 gallons of water to produce 1lb of wheat.

Therefore, the most direct ways you can change is by changing the food on your plate.

Provided by FELICIA LIREK ANAK FERDINAND

Did you know that the biggest slices of a typical household’s energy budget are heating and cooling (about 40%) and water heating and lighting (each about 10%)?

Therefore, a simple method that can be practiced by individuals to save energy with a few no-sweat moves, can reduce your annual costs by $250 to $300.

Practically, room sharing is a more effective way to save up energy at home. This is because by only needing to have lights, a humidifier, or air conditioner in one room, it uses less electricity.

Our available water supply is finite, which means that the amount of our water supply is not endless. If water conservation practices are neglected, we might face water shortages in the future which is concerning and troubling to all of the living creatures on earth.

By harvesting rainwater, we could reduce our reliance on groundwater despite the demands for water supply due to our population growth that just kept increasing day by day. Harvesting rainwater could also minimize wastewater as we are trained to utilize them based on the amount of rainwater that we collected. Rainwater can be used for cleaning, watering the plants, bathing and many more as long as we do not use them for drinking water purposes.

Water conservation requires forethought and effort. Even by making little a change to our lifestyle like this, it’s still helping us to preserve the environment.

Today, we can see how our planet is deteriorating day by day. Furthermore, humans are unaware of where they are and what is happening in our world. Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, we need to survive and be more productive to save our world while also taking care of our health. As a result, our team decided to reduce waste by making our compost fertilizer out of organic waste from our kitchen. As we all know, we generate a large amount of kitchen waste daily. Then we decided to use nature to save the world by harvesting rainwater. There are numerous advantages to reducing our reliance on groundwater.

Also, to satisfy our energy-saving targets, the following step has been taken. Some of us are unaware that we are already conserving energy. So, we're going to show you how to save energy by sharing a room and how to use LEDs instead of regular light bulbs. This is a simple step that we can take to save almost half of our energy as well as a lot of money.

(178 words)

Provided by SITI NURHANIS BINTI YAACOB

Sustainability-shaming our beauty routine appears to be a current craze. Don't get us wrong! We need to change our ways, but it's a minefield to avoid doing more harm than good. However, one simple and sure way to help reduce waste is to eliminate the use of single-use cotton from our daily routines.

According to WWF, the amount of water required to produce one kilogram of cotton, which is equivalent to one of our basic white T-Shirts, is the same amount of water that one person would consume over three years. So, consider how much water we waste on a single-use cotton pad.Less cotton pads thrown away equals fewer cotton pads ending up in a landfill.

Despite the fact that they are made of cotton, ‘using them as part of your daily routine can reduce waste and environmental impacts because they can be reused frequently'.

Provided by SITI NURHANIS BINTI YAACOB

During this sunny day, “extra fan 🤭” is needed to keep our body cool. It’s very important to keep our self-cool because there are some risks of getting extremely hot such as dehydration and overheating. Keeping ourselves cool may also help keep our mood calm because heat usually exacerbates feelings of frustration, stress and tension, especially as a student, we really need to control all of this feeling because it can impact our studies.

So, there is a way to keep our body cool, but still being able to save electricity, which is by using portable rechargeable fan instead of using standard fan. Rechargeable fan can save the energy because they are battery-run. They are designed in a way that they will work even after a power cut without the availability of electricity. After a power cut, it can go on its battery capacity for quite a while. Meanwhile, stand fan needs to run the electricity to make it function.

Provided by YASMIN FIRZANNA BT WAN KHAIRUL ASRI

In the warmer months when our home begins to heat up, it’s natural to switch on the A/C and allow it to cool back down. The main problem that A/C is running for long periods to achieve a reasonable temperature. This requires a lot of energy and along with the cost it incurs, may not be the most efficient way to cool off our home. Thus, opening up windows can allow cool gusts of wind to naturally reduce the temperature in our home and is especially effective at night.

Provided by NIK NURNADIA FARIZAH BINTI NIK NAZARI

This week-12 is the last week for us to post our daily activities in padlet. However, we have not forgotten our goals which are to save energy and reduce waste. Other than that, we’re still willing to keep on practicing sustainable living.

To save energy consumption, we chose to use a portable fan or also known as a rechargeable fan rather than a regular stand fan. They are battery-run that will work even without the availability of electricity. Besides that, we also used fresh air to cool the house temperature. In this way, we can save energy rather than opting for an air-cond and gain fresh air.

Next is to reduce waste, we introduced to you not to use paper. This method is very easy to do because all we need is an application also known as One Note Microsoft to write everything digitally. Minimizing waste can also be practiced by reducing the use of cotton in daily life but using reusable cotton round as the applicator instead. Such measures can give a significant impact on reducing wastes that eventually end up in landfills and contribute to pollution.
(188 words)

Provided by FELICIA LIREK ANAK FERDINAND
