I wouldn't bring this to a pending execution, but I thought deeply about how my tax dollars are funding murders. We are indirectly paying for people to die. If I wouldn't do this directly, I certainly don't want to do it indirectly either.

I am against the death penalty because it is not only irreversible (innocent lives have been legally taken), but it's just as nefarious as the crimes those on death row have committed. It's legalized murder. I was inspired by the Godfather and how he said that it is not justice to seek revenge. Do I believe in incarceration? Yes, I also believe in rehabilitation, stronger research, and other forms of justice. Even victim families have pleaded with courts to not kill their loved one's murderers. We are no better than the criminal by playing God and deciding their fate. And then using my tax dollars to pay for murder? It doesn't sit right with me either. Am I paying more to let them sit in prison for life? Yes, but I rather pay to let live their life out behind bars, rehabilitate them, or whatever means that do not include criminal acts on my dollar.
